you need to read the manual that came with your gun....it should state that you should not put more in the mag than its made for... the manual for my M&P 40 says so anyway

Yes, in general, if you over stress the spring, it can cause problems later on. I would not do it.



The Walther P99s used to have 16 round mags. But, they discovered that when police officers left the mags loaded over time, they started to have issues. So, they backed the mags down to 15 rounds to ensure reliability. So, just 1 extra round could stress it.

Over loading a mag can sometimes cause feeding problems also.
