It seems that there are none of these made...just +P for the 124 grain.

Anythoughts on why?



I think I am going to transition to the 147 grain for carry...those Federal HST rounds that are shown in the wetpack test, are pretty awsome looking rounds.

The 147 bullets are really long. When you seat the bullet into the case, it doesn't leave much room for powder. Also, the space left for powder is small; so pressure will build very quickly trying to push that heavy bullet.



There have been some 147 +P loads. In fact, Federal has just came released a new HST load. It is

HST 147 +P. It pushes the bullet about 50 fps faster than the standard 147 load. But it will probably be a while before you will see any. :wink:

Check out Buffalo Bore Bullets. I read a write up on these rounds, they use speer unicore bullets (gold dots) and they load them HOT. But i bet they're not cheap

Sounds like HST rounds are hard to come by...they are not even on the Federal website. Any ideas on where to get them?

As far as chicks go, i agree with chooch. For 9mm, i think some of the better +P can give you performance just a little under some of the 357sig loadings. If your gun can handle it (and the m&p can) i tend to think +p is a good idea in 9mm, maybe not always necessary with today's bullets, but if i can push a 124gr at or close to 1300fps then that's close enough to the old 357mag 125jhp for me.

I certainly don't feel undergunned, especially with 18 rounds.

FWIW, Doc doesn't like the standard pressure 124gr Gold Dot in 9mm, and doesn't like the 200gr +p Gold Dot in .45, but feels the Gold Dot in .357 SIG is the best round in that caliber. Incidentally, he was unimpressed with the T-Series offering in .357 SIG.

We compared the 9 mm Gold Dot 124 gr standard pressure to the 124 gr +P out of a Glock 17:



9 mm 124 gr JHP Gold Dot 53618 (lot# F08H33), gel calib= 9.5 cm @ 605 f/s

Bare Gelatin--vel=1144, pen=13.0, RD=0.62, RL=0.32, RW=125.5

4 layers of Denim-- vel=1153, pen=16.6, RD=0.51, RL=0.43, RW=125.2



9 mm 124 gr +P JHP Gold Dot 53617 (lot# B03J35), gel calib= 9.0 cm @ 596 f/s

Bare Gelatin--vel=1225, pen=12.0, RD=0.67, RL=0.30, RW=124.2

4 layers of Denim--vel=1239, pen=13.0, RD=0.54, RL=0.39, RW=124.5



Both of these loads offer acceptable performance, although the 124 gr +P has a slight edge.
