Having only just discovered this site 2 weeks ago - I have been impressed with the rave reviews that Dan Burwell aka Burwell Gunsmithing has been receiving and also have become a fan of his work. With that said - I contacted Dan about having a "Media Blast" and a red F/O front sight installed. Sent him the pistol via FedEx on Tuesday - he received Wed morning - did the job and had it back to FedEx that afternoon. I received it today (Thursday) - Wow - 1 day turnaround time and it came out great!!!! The finish is not as bright as the pics show - it looks more like a very light greyish tint - almost like the look of Robar's NP3 or the "Titanium Coated" Walther P99's - the camera flash adds to the brightness in the pics. Anyway, a BIG THANKS to Dan. If you're looking for some work to be performed on your pistol - do not hesitate to contact Dan.

Media Blast

Does removing the black finish affect the slide's integrity any, removing the melonite?

The blasting removes the black coloring. The Melonite penetrates the steel similar to Glock's Tenifer finish. The hardened surface is not compromised by the blasting, as the sureface is hardened to a depth greater than the amount of material lost due to the blasting.

Looks AWESOME! id like to buy a 9mm M&P and have that done to it. I want to keep my 40 original, but i really like the way that looks. so i guess im going to have to buy another M&P....Darn!!!

NIIIIIIIICE!!!!! As soon as I get the funds together I will be contacting Dan, have seen alot of different moderations he has done, he is the man for sure! I am thinking a 2 tone slide, dont want it all shiny, and no that doesnt mean I dont like the shinny look, it looks beutiful , but my taste will be mostly black with SS on the shark gills etc.

Does your gun have the mag safety? I noticed in one pic that the stupid warning isn't on the slide. If Dan's media blast gets rid of it, then i think its worth the price for that alone. The new matte stainless finish looks really sweet, if S&W was smart they'd make it an option from the factory.

With all the talk about Dan's work i'm gonna have to quit smoking and use the money to get some work done on my pistol.

Yes - Dan's Media Blast removes the warning message on the slide - another plus.

BTW - I sold that pistol a while back because I'm a 45 fan - if S&W ever gets around to releasing the M&P45 - I may have to buy one and ship it back to Dan.
