I have a M&P 9c. This is my first handgun and I must say I am obsessed. Great because soon, it will be the wifes as I have already developed the big brother syndrome.

Question....I have had mixed reviews on how often you should clean your handgun. Many have said after every range visit and others have said after 500 rounds or so. Any advice?

I do a field strip after each shooting session and wipe everything down, forcing the cleaning rag into as many areas as possible particularly in the lower and on the breech face. I also run a bore snake through a couple of times. Relube, done.

I do a complete detail strip cleaning once a year or so. That's the only time I use a "real" bore brush and patches.

If I put a bullet down the barrel of any of my guns they get fully cleaned before they get put up.

If I'm out at the range and happen to toss 500+ rounds downrange through one gun I might strip it down and clean it - unless it's one of the AR-15's.

I clean mine about 5 times a day.....ok that was a joke. But its almost like I want to strip her down every day and just look at her and handle her....lol I clean mine after every shoot, when I am done shooting I cant eait to get home and clean/lube her up! This almosty sounds like porn....hahaha

It all depends on you my freind, I would consider taking good care of her, she is an M&P.......!!!

Good luck, and happy shooting

great! Thanks for the reply everyone. That was my plan as well. A few "range experts" said it wasn't good to clean it that much. Sounded kind of funny to me.

I have to agree with most of the other people on here, I fully clean and lube my gun after every time it is fired.
