I'm considering an M&P 45 as my new carry gun. I currently carry a Beretta PX4 Storm and I would wait for their .45 model to come out -- but who knows when that will finally be! So I'm leaning toward the M&P.

A couple of questions:

1) Has anyone tried carrying it yet? How it is size wise? I don't have any problem with the full-size PX4, so I'm guessing the M&P shouldn't be much different.

2) Is anyone making holsters for the 45 yet? I've seen some posts that indicate some of the M&P 9/40 holsters fit the 45 and others don't. I use Comp-Tac Pro Undercover holsters for my concealed carry -- not sure how they would fit the 45. Anyone have any experiences?

Thanks for the help.

navyguy,

Welcome to the site. Good to see someone from good old Stafford VA. I grew up in stafford back in the day, haven't been back in several years though. Good luck with your M&P search.

The Tucker Gunleather "The Answer" IWB holster that I have been carrying my M&P40 in also fits the M&P45. I cant tell the difference with either pistol in this holster.

Thanks for the feedback -- and the welcomes!

Why do you want to switch from Px4?

M&P 45 is a larger gun, IMO for a carry gun you're better off with what you have ...
It's an option - without trying to touch off a caliber war, I do like the idea of .45 ACP for self-defense. That said, I'm not unhappy with 34 rounds of 9mm at the ready.

I have to be careful that the M&P doesn't become an "impulse" buy....I appreciate the honest feedback!

I have both a .45 fs and a compact. I have been carrying the compact during the last three late falls through early spring. Warmer months I switch to a Sig P238. I have carried the fs mostly IWB in a supertuck but found it to be a bit big for my taste, although the supertuck did spread the weight out. It is now in an HD mode.

Personally I would go compact if you want the stay with the .45 acp. I prefer that caliber with .40 as my second choice.

I just bought a Shield .40 and once it warms up a bit (at 3:30 am it is about -13 and maybe 11 for a high) so I can do some shooting with it I may just start carrying it as a warmer weather carry piece and keep the Sig for those really need a small gun occasions.

Wright Leather Works makes their high quality leather holsters for the S&W MP45 4" && 4.5". I have the OWB Predator and can highly recommend their work.

I sometimes carry my M&P45 FS in an Old Faithful IWB holster. It carries very comfortably, for a full size firearm. I'm considering something smaller though, either an M&P45c or and M&P40c. Just can't make up my mind. I carry my FNX-9 90% of the time though.
