AR type guns in CA?

The local gun shop tells me that they can't sell me or get me an AR type rifle? Is this true? I hear that these rifles are legal to own in CA, just that they need to be semi auto only, and 10 rd mags, is this true? Whats the real deal guys?

Any AR questions you ever have can be answered by asking around on AR-15.com. Several Cali members on there have them. I think they have the post-ban AR's with 10 round mags, no bayonett lugs, permanently installed flash suppressors, etc.
I would look at a different dealer, or retail store and see if they have any. I understand CA is way anti-gun, but the ban has been lifted of AR's, thats why we have pre-ban and post-ban. It could be your age, are you under 21?

CA still has it's own assault weaposn ban. You can get an ar-ish type of gun. It has to have a 10 round non-removable magazine. there are a couple of cali compliant lowers which are sutpid, and a device that makes your normally detachable magazine not removable without tools. However, the powers that be seem to be a bit pissed at the last one, so we'll see if it remains on the complaint list.

I had no idea, sorry for my mis information...

absolutely pathetic, but thanks for the info!
its stupid, there is a welded bottom ar type rifles to load your rds you have to brake it down shotgun style.

Id also love a ar type rifle for just good ol range shooting and just to have because i was in the marines.

I also dont get it, a semi auto ar15 vs a m1a whats the diff?.. bigger round with the m1a still semi auto.. 10 rd mag

Yay for California!

The one below isn't near as bad. You can use detachable mags in CA as long as you don't use a pistol grip, flash hider, or adj. stock. It makes sense, though, cause without those parts it's not nearly as potent as a "regular" AR... wait...

Those are crazy... Not sure if there cool, or I should be upset.
Ok maybe I'm strange but I LIKE THE FIRST ONE. I wonder if it is a home made stock or if I can buy it. I know I'm alone on this one, but I much prefer rifles without a pistol grip. That one would most likely make reloads a bit harder but imagine the looks you are gonna get.
