Called S&W and was told it's a factory installed part.

I wanted one as a backup if mine broke, instead of sending back the entire pistol.

It doesn't need any special tools to install so I don't understand.

I've seen that several people here have them. How did you get them??

I think Jester has a batch of them at one time. Give him a PM and ask him. I got mine from a "secret" contact.

I would call back and try again.

They will sell them.

Say, "I need to order a part for a S&W M&P. It is part #27977. Thank you."

Called back today and asked first for price.

Then was told "out of stock"

Asked about info re "factory installed" from yesterday's call and was told "we prefer to keep these in the factory" but said they would sell them when in stock.

He admitted that I should have been just told "out of stock" yesterday.

I still don't know what to believe or why the B.S.

I do know that M&P Store really has them per new thread today.

Query: why the panic to own a spare one? Is this a part which has shown a propensity for breakage or wear? I have a spare (a gift from the Wesson Fairy) but it's not a regular maintenance replacement item to the best of my understanding.

I don't know why The Fish wants one ToddG but my 40 was of early design which had a striker design problem. The striker developed a burr where it interfaces with the safety plunger resulting in drag and light hits. S&W wouldn't send me a new one and I didn't want to be without the pistol during a factory repair cycle so purchased one. After receiving the new one, saw the design change then with my trusty file fixed the original. Several thousand rounds later the original is going strong and I have a new spare.

Hi;

Actually was ordering another part and thought I'd get the striker as a spare at the same time to save shipping and kill two birds etc....

I do have them, and they are sometimes hard to come by.

BTW it depends on who you talk to there as to if you can get parts.

I order sears every month, If I talk to anyone but Jeff, i get told that is a factory part. (even though I order at least 10 a month) They just say it must have been a mistake that I was able to purchase them.
