I (my wife and I) have a California permit (not all counties in California are hard or crazy) and I have a Utah permit also. I did the Utah one incase my wife and I do some traveling.
AL only. I used to have TN and AL, but when TN started recognizing AL permits, I dropped TN. Most of the states that I visit here in the south honor AL's permit.
I just have North Carolina (which is good in quite a few states). In the past I have had PA, NH, and VA permits, but since the passage of HR218, I mostly rely on that. I have the NC permit mostly because it precludes the need for a purchase permit or NCIS check.
I've got a NC permit, and like Landric says, one of the best side benefits is the ability to use it for all firearm purchases, no checks required, no permit from the Sheriff's dept required for handguns... etc...
Everybody, do yourselves a favor and never go to Packing.org again. The site has degenerated to a bunch of high schoolers in a pissing contest, and the information is irregularly updated at best.
Instead, go to http://www.handgunlaw.us/. The site is run/maintained by a couple of guys who had their hands in Packing.org, but pulled out when they saw things heading downhill fast.
In answer to the original thread post, I have a FL non-res since I'm active-duty AF, and FL has the most coverage nationwide than any other state. I'll get my TX resident permit some day, but I don't have the time/money to take a trip down South to attend class.
