Comparison between M&P and XD - Round 3

Discovered another issue with the XD that M&P wins on:

M&P:

  • All M&P slides are stainless steel.

    • XD:
      • The XD with black slides are carbon steel. I called Springfield Armory to confirm this information. (These slides can be prone to rust.)
      • The bi-tone XDs are stainless steel.

They must use carbon steel to keep the price down. But how does S&W use stainless steel and the prices are very low?

Actually there isn't much diference in the cost of the steel its self , by S&W only using one type of steel in their production line it simplifies the production line and helps hold costs down thus why they can offer the M&P at below Glock prices .

The reason this interested me is because I'm going to have Burwell Gunsmithing refinish my XD slide probably next month. Dan and I needed to know if the slide needs to be coated. If it is not stainless, then it needs coating.

Other manufacturers commonly use carbon steel too. I've seen other common brands of pistols rust while in storage.
