Early serial number?

2186 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  snscott
I just noticed that the serial number on my new MP40, purchased only 10 days ago on 9/8, is MPBxxxx. Isn't that a fairly early serial number for a recently purchased new MP? Seems odd that a "high volume" store like Bass Pro would still have MP's numbered that early. I ask because I read on another forum that they thought the serial numbers were up to MPFxxxx now?

My M&P born on date is 8-16-06.

Serial prefix MPF.

The born on date is the date on the little envelope which contains the factory fired case.

Dear Mr. Glocker,

Although the date on the fired case envelope is close, the "born-on" date actually appears on the box label next to the serial number in the form yjjj where y is a single digit representation of the year, e.g. 6 = 2006, 7 = 2007, etc. and jjj is a three digit day-of-year date.

My M&P40's label is marked MPE9xxx 6200, which is 19 July 2006. The fired case envelope is marked 18 July 2006.
Yes, I am aware of that. My dates happen to match. People usually use the date on the envelope b/c it is easy to use; especially if you are looking up a date that happened to be a leap year.

I stand corrected.
My dates also match. my b/c date is July 27, 2006 and my 4 digit date is 6208. My serial number is MPF4XXX

My serial number is MPB but the date code is 6068, so it is from this year. Thanks for the info!
