FYI: This is an email I sent to S&W about 2 weeks ago, and their reply...

My message:
I wanted to let you know I am a fan of your Shield Plus series, and I had a suggestion for you.

Many people have smaller hands, like myself. Your 4" Performance Center Shield Plus shoots amazing, and it is the first gun that feels like it was made for my grip.

Well, you have been doing different variations of the M&P series for years - including the recent metal series for the M&P line. I would suggest continuing that idea with the Shield Plus series. I shoot my 4" Shield Plus more accurately than any other gun I own, because it actually fits my hands.

I would like to suggest that you come out with more variations of the Shield Plus. A 5" slide version on the Shield Plus frame would be amazing. As would a metal series Shield Plus. I understand the 3" version is mainly aimed at concealed carry. But with the success of the 4" model, I think many gun owners would like to see a continuation of the line.

I think you may be surprised at how people would take to the idea. (I actually have 3 Shield Plus guns) I am actually the admin of the MP Pistol Forum, and numerous members have commented about how they shoot their Shield Plus more accurately than our fullsize M&P line. Just a suggestion...

Thanks for your time...

And their reply:

Thank you for contacting Smith & Wesson. Unfortunately, we have no plans to release this firearm with that configuration; however, we are always open to suggestions. I would be glad to relay your interest to our Marketing & Product Development department for review. If you have any other questions please feel free to contact us at 1-800-331-0852

Thank you and Have a Great Day!

What is wrong with theirs mp 2.0 4.25 inch barrel or 5 inch barrel models.?
The plus was just to increase capacity. It seams not to different from regular shield and even can use same holsters and accessories.
I recently acquired the shield plus 3.1 9mm and in the process of getting the mp 2.0 4.25 inch
Will post after the range visit, but I did pretty well 3.1 plus on trial run and expect same or better performance with 2.0 4+.

If it was a bit cheaper I would go for shield plus PC 4 inch. But my budget can't accept this.
I am looking at Taurus GS3 as possible low cost 4" alternative.

Most people shoot better (smaller groups means better to me, not positive it's the same for everyone) with their Shield Plus pistols than the compart or full size M&P pistols. I have 1.0 and 2.0 full sized pistols in 9MM, 357 SIG and .40 S&W and none of them shoot smaller groups than the Shield or Shield Plus pistols. A customer service rep at S&W told me he had 2 or 3 Shield pistils and all of them shot better than his full sized M&Ps. Many, of not most here will tell you the same.

Maybe you got an full sized M&P that has the right combination of parts/set up and maybe ammo to shoot pretty decent groups. Hold onto it.

I would never buy a Taurus. My life is worth more than a Taurus, personally.

As for the regular M&Ps... I like the size of the grip of the Shield Plus over the grip of the doubles tack M&Ps. And, it is amazing how well my 4" Shield Plus shoots. I have said it before - it shoots about as well as my John Wick 2 Glock Combat Master that is more than 4x the price. I would LOVE a 5" version of the Shield Plus...

Sometimes a "rejection" letter is the first little rock rolling down the hill side that knocks bigger rocks loose as the landslide starts.

Surely Shield Plus sales/demand will show a strong market opportunity to S&W (I can't think of another small pistol that compares to it, I certainly don't have one - other than the standard Shield which is a lower mag. capacity than the Plus)

I don't know if I'd by a 5" model or not. I might. I sure like the way the long slide guns look. I've bought the long slide models in M&P, FNS, P09, etc. Maybe because of my 1911 use over the years I still feel the long slide models are the best looking.

I can tell you, the long slide PC 9MM 1.0 I have has the ported barrel and slide and that really does make a difference in muzzle rise. There's lots of things they could to, if they made a 5" Shield Plus to add options that improve the gun for their buyers.

You can get them, now, with 3.1 or 4" barrels. 10, 13 or 15 round magazines (no reason why they can't make 17 round magazines. Sure, it will stick out more but look at what those newer pistils with the 24 round magazines look like. I wouldn't want to carry it concealed with a 17 or 19 round magazine in it put I'd carry one as a spare/back up for the 13 round mag. I carry in the pistol.

Optics ready models and standard slide models. With or without night sights. Do they offer a model, or option of fiber optic front sight?

They could have a one frame fits all barrel lengths/slide option model and sell slides only (some of us just bought 4" slides and built them up for our Shield Plus pistols.

I was unhappy with the Taurus G3. It would not feed HP reliably. I traded it for a Canik Mete SFT and love it. I suggest you look at the Caniks before making a decision.

I have read good things about Canik. I've also read the latest Taurus pistols are a far cry from the early models. But reading about how nice the Canik triggers are and being at least as reliable as Taurus would make me lean that way.

If you look at the history of Taurus, and them selling guns they KNEW were unsafe... And people died... And, an executive admitted during a deposition that they knew what was going on... Why would you ever give them money again?

On another forum, I have posted numerous news stories showing the shady things that went on, and also the horrendous customer service that still goes on (go look at the BBB reviews - they haven't changed in 10-15 years). Sorry, but I don't like Taurus at all. And, I usually just keep my mouth shut when someone posts up their new Taurus.

Anyway, I don't want to turn this thread into a Taurus thread...

I like the Shield Plus so much. I just wish S&W would come out with more variations... Even a 4" with factory night sights would be awesome. I don't want to buy another 4" Shield Plus, and then spend another $100 to buy night sights.

Well my issues with Canik is
1. I already have over 4" barrel pistol. I am thinking of getting one in between 3.1 and 4+
2. Price. I got 2 Smith and Wesson good quality yet pricy pistols. But since I have one more buy permit I am thinking to maybe get one more reliable but inexpensive pistol for backup duty.
That's where Taurus comes in. By all my research it is a decent low price option. Considering that it partners with Smith and Wesson it should be a decent quality.

As I emphasized before, at this point I am very price sensitive. I already blew my budget to smitherins. So I only have 2 options
1. Say f#@$ it and let the third purchase permit expire
2. Bite the bullet and find a cheap yet reliable gun to buy as an expendable backup to 2 I just got.

If anyone have a better suggestion as to anything I can get sub 300$ matching this specifications, I am all ears.

I saw a post on one of the related boards, that mentioned that SW now owns a good chunk of Taurus business thus hope is that some of the business practices will leak over , like quality control and some technology improvements. If I find it I will post a link here.

I have three Caniks; and you don’t need to worry about their reliability, accuracy, or anything else.
I’ve been leaving my Wilson 1911s home to carry and shoot my Caniks in IDPA, and for daily carry. The Wilsons are $3000.-$5000. guns; being replaced by less than $700.00 Caniks.

I won’t even type the word taurus in the same sentence with them.

I googled this and cannot find anything on this. Any sources? It is rather hard to believe, but who knows. ..

IMHO a quality new pistol under $300 is a lot to ask for. Canik TP9 Elite SC and Mete MC9 are both under 4". Take a look at those.

Yes, sub $300 is asking a lot. But a Shield Plus can be found for $400, and then there is a rebate right now. Best deal right now.
Well I already got shield plus 3.1inch and the rebate for it, and mp9 2.0 4.25 inch is on order now.
I have one more permit to buy but I already blew my budget to smitherins. I figured if I can find something under 300$ I can push the budget just a little. But after reviewing the situation I think I will just let it go. I really wanted to get the 4" mp shield plus PC, but at 600+ ... No can do.
