You could remove it from the dust-cover. This section of the frame does not hold the slide, so there should be no structural issue with its removal. If you ever do this to your new M&P (if you purchase one), please post pictures for us to view.

Still available without the rail? Don't think it ever was available without the rail.

I don't think I have ever seen one without the rail. The "Shooting Gallery" episode was showing an early prototype and even it had the rail.

Now that I think about it (that is hard sometimes!) perhaps I had the ability to get the pistol without the IL and mag disconnect in mind.

My question to S&W: "I assume that all M&P pistols come with a Picatinny rail. Is this correct?"
