How you all doin?

Joined a few days ago. I'm in Australia. The info on this site is great. I am in the process of getting an M&P9, just waiting fot the paperwork to go through (another 30-40 days or so). Not so bad after waiting 6 month already...

Keep up the good posts. Good to see very little bitching!

I didn't think you people down there were allowed to have firearms.
Hi

Yea we are, it just takes about 7-8 months for them to be approved, hand guns that is, through a club. About 28 or so days for rifles. The pistols are a min of 123mm (~5") barrel and a max of 10 in the mag.

Welcome to the forum!! Good luck!
Don't forget to post a few pics once it's in-hand. I'm sure we would all like to see if anything had to be done to get Austrailian approval. (I'm assuming it's a 9mm, so it would need a longer barrel to make Ausi-specs)

Yea I'll get some pics out once it’s cooled down from range testing!

The barrel is longer, 5". It sticks out the end like a mistake. The mag is like the CA mags with a plastic bit on the end to limit them to 10+1 shots. Otherwise they are fairly similare to what appears to be going around here.

They have every safety on them and that's not optional.

I don't know if the trigger has been changed?

Welcome! Wow, what other laws do you have concerning firearms? But I'm glad to hear that you're still able to obtain handguns. Looking forward to hearing about things from that side of the big pond.

Self loading pistols have to have a min barrel of 123mm (~5”). Mag of 10 max and nothing over 9mm. Only approved pistols for the country can be bought. When I started to look for pistols I gave up looking on the net and just went to the shop (I mean there are very few shops that actually stock pistols let alone sell them). The American market is just filled with choices!

Metal silhouette can be bigger (I think revolvers only) but that’s a pain in the ass for the sake of it. It can only be got through a club, no hunting with any of them! Each discipline costs, so if you shoot Metal, Field and Prac it can cost quite a bit on range fees.

What else do you want to know?
Do you get looked at like a terrorist by the non-gunnies when you talk about guns? I guess what I'm asking is what the general attitude in the populace is regarding gun ownership, and what kind of guns are more "evil" than others. Like here, EBR's "Evil Black Rifles" like the AR-15 and the AK variants can make people think you're nuts or planning a rampage, despite the fact that these guns share little but design with their full-auto counterparts.

Yea it's kind of like you are on the fringe... But it's only a few that go overboard on control but it sticks.

No semi auto rifles at all (shotties, .22’s, nothing), NO AR’s. all max capacity of 10. To get a centre fire rifle letters from property owners are required or club support and another 28 day wait…
