Got my new S&W FPC

I saw this at the gun store yesterday. They just got them in yesterday morning.

Managed to snag one :)

Now, I am waiting for the optic I ordered to come in. I watched a Youtube video to show me how t take it apart. It's not too hard, but it's a bit different.

Once I get the optic, I get to shoot it.

I watched a video review last night on Youtube. Guy shot about a 1" group at 50 yards. That's much better than the 2-3" average that the Beretta CX4 shoots. So, I can't wait to try it.

Your optic will be on the free float tube/barrel shroud/rail. I don't see that as an issue, but some people (AR people) say you shouldn't have an optic on the rail over the barrel.

I put a DP Pro on the free float tube of an AR15 pistol several years ago. Zero issues with mine.

What kind/brand of optic are you looking at? A pistol sized dot or a carbine/rifle sized optic?

I am going with a carbine sized optic, as that is the size of my favorite optic...

I ordered a Mepro 21 reflex sight last night. So, just waiting for that to arrive.

This will be the 8th one of these I have owned over 10+ years. I have come to the conclusion that it is my favorite optic. I like it better than a red dot.

I got the triangle reticle again... Just use the point for precision shots. And, for fast work - just cover the target with the triangle. No batteries or electronics. It uses fiber optics and tritium. Tritium 1/2 life is 10 years, but I have seen people online claim their Mepro still glowed and was usable at 15 years... But, it will always work in the sun.

I have one on my FDE Beretta CX4 - see the pic:

I got a red dot on the other of my CX4s. But once again, I like the Mepro better. The downside is that it is a bit heavy for an optic. But, I really, really like it. Plus, I don't get that bloom from a red dot with this. It is an amber triangle.

I found an old, old review I typed on the Mepro 21 many years ago. Here it is:

With those Streamlights mounted on the side of the stock like that it wouldn't be hard at all to replace the batteries. Got one on a P09 and I hate to take it off the rail every time it needs batteries. That's why I never bought another one. I have bought TLR3', TLR6's and TLR7As.

And you're right, that's a big sight, or it looks big because of the carbine it's one. I've seen them on AR15's and they didn't really look that big. The DP Pro I have on the AR15 pistol has that amber triangle reticle. With my eyes why I see is two triangles. One is nice and sharp while the other one is faded and low/off to one side a bit.

You know, I just thought about that optic I got awhile back from Primary Arms. I've never had an issue with their red dots on AR15's failing but they are electric and use batteries. So I ordered one of those newer optics with the laser etched reticle. Turn it off (or have a battery/electrical failure) and the reticle is black. Turn it on (I bought the green one) and you've got lighted reticle with two night sight settings and bright enough for anything else on the higher settings. I bought the 1X unit. Can't see small spots on the target so I bought a 3X tip off magnifier and put on that carbine. Next time I'll just buy the 3X (or 5X) model. Word of advice (from my first range trip with it), don't carry green targets to the range when your reticle lights up green. Brand new optic and I had to sight it in turned off.

I have read about that Primary Arms optic with the etched glass. I'd probably try it if I didn't like the Mepro so much.

Yes, I do take the light off the gun to change the batteries (the ones mounted on the CX4s). But, it's easy. I just use a coin to unscrew the mounting screw. Then, put it back using a coin. It's very easy. I like how the levers work on the TLR1, and the light is fairly light weight.

Yes, I learned not to shoot targets with a red center when using a red dot . Same concept :)
Looks amazing. Congrats!! Looking forward to your impressions.

That sucks! If it was me I would go anyway and shoot line of sight just for the fun of it. (y) :):):):)

Got my optic in. Threw it on the rail, then had to leave to go to the doctor.

Without any extra mags in the stock, the scale claims the S&W is 2lbs lighter than my CX4 setup.

Only thing is I have neck issues. The exact same optic on the CX4 sits a little higher. That is more comfortable to my neck. I don't want to, but I may have to buy a .5 inch high rail riser to use the gun. We shall see.

If and when I get my FPC in order to have a more comfortable cheek weld is to first experiment with using pipe foam insulation around the stock. I could use various thicknesses to see if that works. If it does that would let me know how to proceed for a more permanent solution.
Yes, I held the new S&W up against the Storm CX4. The optic sits up about 1/2 an inch higher on the storm, compared to the top of the stock (where you rest your face).

I don't really want to, but I have to order a 1/2" riser to put the optic on. I ordered 1 tonight - so, once I get that, I can shoot the gun

You don't need to - it is not like the Keltec. The stock is big enough. Your face is against the stock, not the tube.

Thanks. I was thinking it welded like the Keltec. Once less thing to worry about.

Issues.

Can you put anything on the tube that won't interfere with the cocking handle/T?

The consistent cheek weld is important. Without it you won't be able to shoot consistent groups farther out.

Even if the tube is of a size/shape that the stock could be changed then you'd lose the spare mag. storage. Talking stocks with risers on them to give you that higher cheek weld.
