Got my new S&W FPC

I saw this at the gun store yesterday. They just got them in yesterday morning.

Managed to snag one :)

Now, I am waiting for the optic I ordered to come in. I watched a Youtube video to show me how t take it apart. It's not too hard, but it's a bit different.

Once I get the optic, I get to shoot it.

I watched a video review last night on Youtube. Guy shot about a 1" group at 50 yards. That's much better than the 2-3" average that the Beretta CX4 shoots. So, I can't wait to try it.

Got that for my CZ .40's. 135 grain Nosler HP on top of Blue Dot for the punch. 140 grain lead flat nose on top of Herco for the practice. Same POA/POI at least out to 12 yds.

Not really there with the 9MM guns. Closest I've come is the Precision Delta 115 grain hollow points on top of Blue Dot and the Federal 115 grain FMJ. I've loaded 115 grain LRN, 115 grain TC and 115 grain plated round nose. Several powders. Have not, yet, gotten the groups I get with the two previously mentioned loads.

Still in the baby steps stage with the Shield Plus. We keep shooting the hollow points and not getting around to trying the practice ammo. Gotta do that soon. But then, the new .40 gets in the way. I've got some 180 grain LFN to load for .40, just gotta do it and see what powders work best for it. Oh, I've not found a heavy bullet load in 9MM or .40 that shoots as well as the light bullets. Some people say theirs do fine, I just don't get similar groups. Guns are funny.

Ok, I finally, finally got to shoot it today. Shot great. Zeroed it with no problems.

I put 125 rounds thru the gun.

You just have to watch out for the reciprocating charging handle with your face :)

Glad it functioned/sighted in okay. I just read, somewhere, that the charging handle moves when you shoot it. Does that mean no cheek weld on the stock? I need to take another look at some pictures. Just watched part of a video, the charging handle isn't moving (but he's shooting some darn good groups at 50 yrs. with it. Five shots, four tore an elongated hole. Not bad for that gun/ammo/shooter. Hope your's shoots like that, too.

I'm guessing recoil might bounce the charging handle off your chin/cheek?

edited my post there after watching most of one video on you tube.

The charging handle does move. It is reciprocating.

I have seen that said on reviews, and it did it on mine.

It is easy to try to put your face closer to the optic when shooting for groups. If it stays on the stock, it is fine.

I went back to the range a 2nd time. 251 Rounds thru it total today. I shot 30 rounds of Critical Defense, which is what I will use for defensive purposes. That ammo always hits at the same zero as my 115gr FMJ, which I why I like it.

It is possible that it is just recoil putting it close to my face on some shots. I'd swear I saw someone say it is reciprocating. As I am the one shooting, I can't tell for sure. It is up against my face.

You need to get someone to shoot it while you watch.

I watched another review last night, and it doesn't seem to reciprocate. But, the reviewers complained about the same thing. I think it's just the recoil bumping you in the mouth with the charging handle, if your face isn't all the way to the back of the stock.

People (well, some people) complain about the recoil of the blow back AR 9MM guns. With the AR you can swap buffers (heavier) and buffer spring (heavier) as well as aftermarket buffer systems.

Is there any way to reduce recoil on the M&P PCC?

I read where people say shooting heavier 9MM bullets has less snap/recoil than shooting light bullets (I know, the opposite of rifles). Can you feel any difference between 147 and 124 grain ammo?

Then again, shoot it enough and you may stop noticing it.

I usually do not buy 124 or 147 FMJ. So, I cannot say yet. I usually only buy 115gr ammo. So, I will have to see.

I do not think there is currently a way to change to non factory springs on the gun right now...

If I lived close to Shipwreck, I'd shoot it while he watched. 100 rounds or so ought to do it! ;)

For me, noticing recoil and complaining about recoil aren't the same. I notice the recoil (or lack thereof) of every firearm I shoot. My Garand has noticeable recoil as does my 12 gauge shotguns, but no complaints.

One can 'toughen up' to recoil that at first might seem harsh. Thinking about recoil before you pull the trigger makes you more likely to complain about the recoil.

In decades of hunting with a 12 ga and shooting clay birds, I can honestly say I never felt the recoil at the time of the trigger pull. Shooting a Garand off-hand and plinking I don't notice the recoil as I expect it, but don't dread it.

At the end of a long shooting day with a Garand and 12 ga. I might be shoulder sore, but no complaints (unless I don't get my thumb out of the way with the Garand and then I cuss a blue streak which seems to help).

He should furnish the ammo since you're doing him a favor and buy you dinner for the after-range discussion.

The recoil on the rifle isn't bad. But having little wings in front of your face that move as the gun moves (from recoil) is the problem.

Anyway, it never gets you hard enough to hurt. It's just weird, and you DO have to be careful

Well; could you put a rubber band on it, or something?
Just think out of the regular gun box for a bit…

I don't think that would help.

Anyway, it is not that bad. Just a little annoying

I forget if I said it before, but this carbine is very interesting.

I wonder if we will see anyone else come out with variations of this, not that the government changed the rules on braces.

The only thing I would like to see on the FPC is an adjustable butt stock. But due to the FPC construction that may not be possible. If it is possible, sooner or later either S&W or a third-party will come up with one.

But a non-adjustable butt stock is not a deal killer for me.

Charging handle doesn't reciprocate. Make sure it's latched when you close the bolt. There is a little spring loaded latch at the front of the buffer tube.

The less square you are to your target (weak side foot forward more) the more your cheek weld will be forward on the stock and then the charging handle will be close enough to get you because of recoil.

I've got 600 rounds through mine and don't even notice the charging handle when shooting.
