Got my Shield 2.0 4" 9MM slides from CDNN today (sights, too)

Guys, these are new slides. Not a mark on mine. Wrapped in blue plastic (bag) inside that greasy/waxy feeling S&W brown paper. Sights are in a foam lined clear plastic container/display case. Like you'd see hanging from a rack in a store.

Got some of the parts for the slide. Waiting on a barrel. Might try to get the night sights on that first slide tomorrow. No use messing with the striker till I get the striker block parts and the slide back plate.

I need to modify the slide optics cut to get rid of the back pins and shorten the front pins like I did the Shield Plus when I got it.

Then it goes on the Shield Plus frame for a trip to the range for sight in and to see how it shoots.

@HEADKNOCKER, would you happen to have the correct P/N for that polymer cover plate? S&W sent me the wrong one (quite a bit longer). Thanks.

@HEADKNOCKER, sorry I wasn't clear, I meant the cover plate for the optics cut-out secured by the 2 screws. Thanks,
Thanks, didn't know it was same as the one on the short slide. I saw those you mentioned but wasn't sure at first.(y)
Funny thing was, my parts order with S&W was incomplete the first pass, then I had to place a second order, and the RMR cover they sent was for the newer series (longer and rectangular) P/N 421570000, I called back and they sent me a bag P/N 3012907, which included 7 plates + screws for the newer & longer cutout. Now that you told me the Freestone fits, I ordered one. It would have been much cheaper from S&W had they shipped the correct one!

Don't have optics yet so I was looking for a cover, S&W couldn't get the right part so I bit and got the ebay polymer take-off first, then I got this from NDZ, good fit, just a hair high at the back, cheaper than the recycled one for sure and is aluminum. No screws included, just used 6-32x1/4.

Did you get the one with P/N 3009903 for the Shield 4"? It doesn't seem as strong as the one on my factory CA v1 Shield, on that one, I left the slide locked back for a month, plus it had 500+ rounds through before it got easier to cock. TR finally shipped my barrel so we will see.

Re: guide rod for the 4" slide - The "correct" S&W P/N seems to be 3009903, can't really test mine without the TR barrel in my hand, but Jim over on CalGun couldn't get the S&W part so he bought the stainless from Galloway (that one didn't state it would fit the "Shield" FWIW), he bought the 17# version and experienced no failure in his report, but he "felt" it was a bit light and thought of trying the 20#. It could also be that he was comparing to the CA v1 Shield recoil spring.

Little surprised by the TR barrel experience, this is the first time I bought from them simply because I cannot source a factory 4", I waited for a while for the standard 4" but they were out of stock, so I asked them to ship me the extended 4.25" ported instead, think it is the same as M1A's. I finally got it today and noticed the Melonite coating is all over, including the ramp (it may be well polished underneath). Fitted into the 4" slide (with 2.0 extractor, spring, linear spring and keeper) over my 1.0 CA Shield frame, the lock-up is very good - so far so good. I also cycled couple 8-round clips of dummy rounds and they didn't seem to hang up in any sort of way. Maybe live fire is a different story. I probably won't have time for the range until I am done with a current annoying project.

From what I have read, people seem to like their bare stainless 1911 & Hi-power barrels, so I hope yours is simply not-to-spec? These guys at TR are hard to reach by email, I was told the other day they had email issues. While I have never been able to reach a live person when calling, they are pretty good in returning calls if you left a message. Since their stuff have life-time warranty, I think you should at least try to give them a chance to make things right.

One thing of note, most of you knew the 1.0 Shield recoil spring is a bear, OTOH, the 4" recoil assembly is a bit lighter and I had no trouble racking in new condition.

@Jay T Looking good. Really wanted the off-roster plus but not at the crazy prices on the left coast, just have to settle on the 1.0. I wasn't going to put optics on it, but now I am thinking of the EPS Carry MRS with green, but most places are OOS.

@HEADKNOCKER They also have the TG set (green on green) SMITH & WESSON M&P SHIELD SIGHT SET GREEN (SMISHIELDSET) | eBay , just get the slide already, that way, it can sit for a bit at home and you never have to say "I should have...". Barrel is not bad, just condition yourself you will be paying 50% more on a $100 part.

Really wanted to test out the 4” slide + TR barrel combo and decided to sneak in some range time on game day, well, all lanes were open except for 2, so I was able to at least function test the 4” setup. Brought 2 boxes circa Y2K – 1x Geco 124 Gr Ball & 1xAmerican Eagle 147Gr FMJFP, kid at the counter said “these are old”, my response – “as long as they go boom when I pull".

I was shooting with S&W night sights from CDNN (TG green on green), I eyeballed the rear when it was pushed in, about dead center, bought a laser bore sighter from Amazon afterward and it said I was lined up in windage but low on elevation, not much I could do save for tweaking the front.

The bullets landed about where the sights indicated, a hair low @ 25’ – 30’ but windage is good. I went back to my habit of using the slide stop as a release, with the proper S&W recoil spring, I had no trouble, I didn’t have to pull the slide back to feed. OTOH, with the 1.0 Shield setup, it was tough to do the same.

1st 50 rounds were the Geco, not a single feed issue, OTOH, the Federals gave me 4-5 FTF’s, which has to do with the factory 8-round mags, when these are filled with 7 rounds, not a single hiccup.

I did have to clean the new TR (Remsport) barrel a bit before range, but it wasn’t terrible by any stretch to get it ready. I am happy with the 4” combo, shoots smoothly, and I now have options. You see, the bar is so low here on the left coast, I am easy to please... LOL.

@M1A4ME So what's the plan on the second slide? am waiting for the EPS Carry to be back in stock and shooting mine with irons for now. Haven't started on the second build, not sure what to do yet.
Would love to go the route and put down $ and grab the rebate, except the CA roster says I can buy as many M&P as I want, as long as it's the 1,0 Shield. Damn roster I tell you.
@M1A4ME Finally got the 407k in and mounted everything up (EPS Carry OOS), however, I think I want to rid the use of a plate, did you have to shave the front at all or simply get rid of the rear posts? Dremel?

@M1A4ME Thanks. I read over on CalGuns that someone also shaved the front posts down on this specific slide to fit the 407/507. I have the DPP plate on and it's fine, I can still barely use the factory night sights so it's not really a big deal. Maybe I will shave the posts on the second slide when I get to it. I was planning on mounting the dremel on a Dremel-type press so that the tip will at least be perpendicular to the top of the slide with the slide is clamped down, then when I get close to the bottom of the posts, just do manual fine filing. While those dremel press setup helps, they lack any sort of precision, but still much better than freehand.

Thanks again for sharing! I am just glad that this slide was available since we have near-zero OEM option on the left coast, save for the complete $300 3.1" OR slide from the factory, which is still debatable for retrofitting to the CA 1.0 frame since it also lacks the LCI.
Have to agree that the extended ported I got from them took a bit of cleaning, more so than other new barrels I bought before. Two things though, it locks up tight and shoots straight, besides, can't buy the 4" straight from S&W so this is the only game in town for a new unit. I was going to get the standard 4" from them at first, but it's been OOS for some time, they thought they would have a new batch but it hasn't shown up, so I ended up with the ported due to my eagerness to try the 4" slide, which I actually like. I think I should just buy another before those become OOS as well. I also have been waiting for their G26 optic cut slide but that has also been OOS. This outfit is a bit strange, never got email reply, and never could reach a live person when calling, BUT the few times I left VM, I got call back on the same day. BTW, they also don't respond to messages off eBay.

Nothing to do and went to the store, these days there's not much to buy in CA, literally nothing new from the last decade can be had. I was still looking for a CZ P-01 but those are always OOS, though they had some SP-01's so I said what the heck, got one finally even though CZ now switched out the NS's and put a FO front, and in CA, we get those funky plastic extended baseplate/block. Then there's this 10-day wait, no joy, besides, local ranges are packed.

Went home, finished up the second 4" slide, then I stared at the first one with the 407k atop DPP plate, took out the dremel press and spent some time to remove the rear posts and trim the front. Came out good enough (read "I didn't F-up the finish"). Now I don't need to get taller sights. Idle hands are simply dangerous.

I was surprised that people were getting excited with ordering those FA320 in single shot config, true that one can drop the FCU into other configurations, but it is a grey area I am not comfortable in testing. For $920, that's within striking distance of private party off-roster sale on 320's, so why bother with the single shot.
