I've always liked the looks of the long slide guns. The 5" M&P pistols, the FNS Long Slide pistols, the CZ P09 pistols, etc.

The Shield Plus with a 4" slide isn't 5" but with the smaller frame it strongly resembles the bigger guns. Just gotta see how it shoots.

Weather forecast for early next week shows Monday or Tuesday afternoons as likely range days for us (or me if she decides something else is more important.)

With the 4" slide, it sure feels like a full sized pistol; especially with the 13 rd mag.

Just came in from degreasing and putting two coats of wax on the last three 15 round mags and both 10 round mags. Now only the 13's are left.

Also did a rough/quick adjustment to the dot to put it over top of the front sight. Hopefully it will be close when I get to the range.

Really wanted to test out the 4” slide + TR barrel combo and decided to sneak in some range time on game day, well, all lanes were open except for 2, so I was able to at least function test the 4” setup. Brought 2 boxes circa Y2K – 1x Geco 124 Gr Ball & 1xAmerican Eagle 147Gr FMJFP, kid at the counter said “these are old”, my response – “as long as they go boom when I pull".

I was shooting with S&W night sights from CDNN (TG green on green), I eyeballed the rear when it was pushed in, about dead center, bought a laser bore sighter from Amazon afterward and it said I was lined up in windage but low on elevation, not much I could do save for tweaking the front.

The bullets landed about where the sights indicated, a hair low @ 25’ – 30’ but windage is good. I went back to my habit of using the slide stop as a release, with the proper S&W recoil spring, I had no trouble, I didn’t have to pull the slide back to feed. OTOH, with the 1.0 Shield setup, it was tough to do the same.

1st 50 rounds were the Geco, not a single feed issue, OTOH, the Federals gave me 4-5 FTF’s, which has to do with the factory 8-round mags, when these are filled with 7 rounds, not a single hiccup.

I did have to clean the new TR (Remsport) barrel a bit before range, but it wasn’t terrible by any stretch to get it ready. I am happy with the 4” combo, shoots smoothly, and I now have options. You see, the bar is so low here on the left coast, I am easy to please... LOL.

Hoping to get to the range this afternoon or tomorrow afternoon. Supposed to be warm/sunny both afternoons.

Oh, got an e-mail from Numrich saying they had 2.0 extractor springs in stock. Jumped on their website and started putting stuff in my cart. At the end I tried to increase the springs to 2 (one for the 2nd slide and a spare) and they only had one 2.0 extractor spring in stock. Oh well, it's on order. I think I've got the rest of the parts (except for an optic and I'm in no hurry for that right now) and I can finish the slide and buy the barrel/optic later if this first one works out. The second one will go on my 1.0 Shield frame so I've got an optic on it, too.

Did you buy them or did you just look?
JUST LOOKING 👀

Indiana Gun Owners Classifieds
Both are nice BUT $290 2.0 with Laser is CHEAP IMO
The PC+ is $600/$780

If the 2.0/CTC Laser was close bye I would buy it, it is 300 miles away near Chicago = TOO FAR, 600 miles round trip... OUCH!

I also NOTE the Holoson 407K is mounted directly, without adaptor or spacer on the PC + OR, it has been milled as IIRC they didn't come that way = More $$$$

Don't remember if it was Midwest Gun Works or Numrich. I know I've ordered from Numrich three times now. They seem to have more parts than Midwest Gun Works.

Started working on the second 4" slide this evening. If it could go wrong it did. Took way longer.

Couldn't find the 2.0 extractor at first (I knew I had ordered two but just didn't see them in the bags of parts.) When I found them I realized I'd looked at that bag before and thought they were 1.0 extractors (got three of those, too.)

Then I had to make two attempts at getting the extractor pin installed. Used a punch for a slave pin (from the bottom) on the second attempt and it went right in.

Thought I had the striker sleeve all the way in the channel and didn't. Got it the second time (when I realized I could not get the striker assembly all the way in far enough to get the slide rear cover in place.

Smoothed out the striker block hole but it started off smoother than the first slide anyway

Then it was time to put the striker in and I couldn't find the new striker cover I'd bought. Used the one I took off my wife's Shield awhile back and then it was time to center the rear sight with the sight pusher tool.

Zero issues getting the rear sight in place/centered. At least that part went smooth.

Started putting the tools up and cleaning up and found that darn striker assembly cover. Pulled the stuff back out and installed the new one.

All I need to do now is buy a barrel (maybe next month) and another 407 (at some point, I can shoot it with the iron sights for break in/accuracy testing).

I just did this a month ago and it went way smoother.

Just one of those times.
