Went from Glock to Colt to Browning to SIG DAK. All in 9mm except for the Colt. Also had a K-frame and a pair of J-frames for a while, all in .38.
A friend asked me to try his MP40 and it was a great gun, considering I don't really like .40's. Another let me shoot his MP9 and I was smitten, and a few C-notes poorer.
Got a full size MP9 coming in, and a Compact on order. If Smith can keep Quality Control high, and can go really aggressive with marketing, the way Glock, Hk and SIG have, I think the M&P will find its way into more and more holsters (civilian, LE and mil).
