Grey follower observations.

As mentioned by Dan in other threads, the follower revision allows the follower to sit higher in the mag, thus allowing the follower to engage the slide stop lever more effectively after the last round has ejected.

I noticed that the newer grey follower engages the slide stop with a much more authoritative "click" when I slowly retract the slide on the empty mag. The increased tension on the follower also causes the mag to eject with much more authority as an added bonus. My black followers have never not gone into slide lock after the last round. However, while closely examining the slide stop lever, I noticed it doesn't engage the notch on the slide fully. Its just enough to keep the slide locked back after the last round. However with the new follower, it fully engages the notch on the slide to the point that it cant go any further. A noticeable improvement.

Guess its time to order four new followers.

When I asked nicely, S&W sent (is sending) me 3 followers N/C

Part # above is what I was told.

Don't quote me to them,just ask .
Give them a call and explain that it is not 100% and they should replace them for you!
could somebody post some pics of the good and bad followers? Thanks...

Photos of each type would not easily show the exact difference in shape.

You need to hold a mag with each kind next to one another to be able to compare.

The color makes it easy to know which kind you have.

The Midway link seems to indicate that the same follower is used for 9mm and .40S&W mags. Is that correct?

Anybody know if S&W has started using only gray followers in new production guns? I have a June build (or so) .40C and she came with black followers.

Thanks

Never had any problems with the slide not locking back as a result of using Grey or Black followers. The only magazine related problem I have ever had was using reloads with a long OAL.
