If you read the article from the other major news sites, they mention that the service that was current going on was in spanish, and the majority of the congregation was latino. They refused to say what the man's legal status was. Taking bets, who thinks he was an illegal? I do, based on the other main stream media stories on this. Sorry if that makes me a bad person, It's just the feeling I get.

The shooter was being held at the Newton County Jail, but police were not releasing any information about him.

^ Makes me wonder, another nutjob from the "Religion of Peace"?

Churches are no-carry zones in Missouri unless you have the permission of the pastor/minister to do so:

(14) Any church or other place of religious worship without the consent of the minister or person or persons representing the religious organization that exercises control over the place of religious worship. Possession of a firearm in a vehicle on the premises shall not be a criminal offense so long as the firearm is not removed from the vehicle or brandished while the vehicle is on the premises;

No-carry in Missouri doesn't have any legal bite unless you refuse to leave a place after being asked to do so. At that point you can be cited for trespassing. If this happens three times I believe your carry permit is revoked.

My heart goes out to those who were hurt. I carry my "friend" with me everywhere, but they won't let me do it at work. BTW, can someone recommend a good car safe, that's easy to access?

The news this evening said the people were mostly Pacific islanders, mostly from Guam, and that there was some talk about possible retribution for a sexual assault, the retribution scenario may be speculation that often pops up after something like this that is disproved later.

When will people realize that no place is safe and sacred? Lord, give me the strength to smite those who seek to harm us; especially while in your house.

Actually I am from Springfield Missouri, not so far away from where this incident happened. Churches are a no carry zone as stated previously in this article. I do not yet have my ccw, so the law really has yet to apply to me, although I will be carrying once I receive my ccw I will be carrying at church. I feel pretty secure at church however, the head of our local SRT team attends my church, and wears his vest as he sings in the choir.

In Ohio, Church's are also no carry zones unless the head church member grants permission; however, by default, they are off limits.

In Ohio we had a church that had several members of the congregation robbed at gunpoint - knowing that the law abiding would be unarmed. Seems like we can't win nor lose in our fight for the right to carry.

I was looking up old laws in Connecticut and way back in the day it was actually illegal to Not take your gun to church. They actually fined people for it. Guess what? I never found an instance where the congregration at church was attacked. I guess the meaning of "deterrance" has been lost over the generations.

Churches are no carry in Mich. too.

You can carry in Michigan in a church if you have permission of the minister. Bellow is the list of "pistol free areas" from the Michigan State Police website.

Pistol Free Areas

Individuals licensed to carry a concealed pistol by Michigan or another state are prohibited from carrying a concealed pistol on the following premises:

1. Schools or school property but may carry while in a vehicle on school property while dropping off or picking up if a parent or legal guardian

2. Public or private day care center, public or private child caring agency, or public or private child placing agency.

3. Sports arena or stadium

4. A tavern where the primary source of income is the sale of alcoholic liquor by the glass consumed on the premises

5. Any property or facility owned or operated by a church, synagogue, mosque, temple, or other place of worship, unless the presiding official allows concealed weapons

6. An entertainment facility that the individual knows or should know has a seating capacity of 2,500 or more

7. A hospital

8. A dormitory or classroom of a community college, college, or university

9. A Casino

"Premises" does not include the parking areas of the places listed above in 1 through 8.

No where in the article from rswaz is there a mention of the services being held in Spanish or the congregation being mostly Latino. The people involved are mostly from Guam which is an unincorporated territory of the United States.
