Had an "ok" day at the range yesterday.

Earlier this week the wife told me she had plans to meet up with her sister and some friends with all the kids at a local waterpark. And my son was scheduled to work today at 1pm. Well the gun range is about 5 mins from my sons work, and being I was the one dropping him off, I figured I hit the range.

So I brought my PX4, M&P and the Taurus snubby with. I had 500 rounds of 9mm and 100 rounds of .38 special. Normally I do not go to Megasports (for those familiar with the area) but again, its right down the street from my sons work, so I decided to save a bit of gas and not drive to the other closest range about 3 towns away.

Overall, I shot just "ok". Some will say that I am being a bit meticulous or maybe even too modest. But I know I can and have shot much better. I struggled today with the Taurus snubby. Most shots (as you'll see) were high and to the right. Not quite sure what was going on there. And with both the PX4 and the M&P, I had ALOT more fliers than I am used to. I split the 500 rounds of 9mm evenly between the PX4 and M&P. And left over from my last range trip I had 60 rounds of WWB .38 Special FMJ's and 40 rounds of the hotter 125 grain WWB JHP+P's. (man those JHP's kicked like a mule)

BTW, all targets today I set out to 15 yards. No closer, no further. Why did I choose that distance only? No idea.

Below are a collection of the best targets of the day. Still with a few fliers as well. All targets are marked and are pretty self explanatory. The one thing I did do today that made me smile a bit was shooting a couple of mags thru the PX4 left handed. I still used my dominate (right) eye but was actually pleased with the results. I guess it does make sense to be best prepared for ANY situation. I should have done this with all the pistols I brought with, but I did not think of it until the last 2 loaded mags of the day.

It unfortunately will be awhile before I am able to hit the range again. The wife and I just did a refi on the house, and were trying to get the last of our major bills paid in full. So it will be about 6 weeks or so before I go again. I hope I do a bit better the next trip out. I guess we cannot be great shots all the time huh?

Thanks for reading/looking.

We all have great, okay, and bad days at the range. But even a bad day is still pretty damn good

Good report on a nice day at the range. Those targets look pretty good to me.

That was a lot of lead to send downrange in one session. I seem to start loosing focus (both visually and mentally) after a couple hundred rounds.
Looks like you need a bit more practice with the left.

Jeez, I should do half as good.

Enjoy

While I don't know for certain, it sure looks like those would be qualification approved results for LEO tests. Any LEOs care to confirm or reject this guess?

I was talking to a young lady who was practicing for her qualifications (VA Dept of Corrections?). she said that they wanted to count every bullet strike, so one big hole wouldn't count. On those days that it looks like I'm trying to emulate shot gun choke patterns, I'd be a great shooter for whatever department she works for.
Was the M&P shot two-handed off hand or from a rest?

If someone wants to see each hole, offer to let them stand beside the target and watch the rounds hit. Or, they can put up additional targets for each ten shots! :)

Also on Thurs I shot my M&P 9 off hand/two handed at 25 feet on the B-3 TF/RF bullseye target and scored 100. This is aiming 1-inch or more above point of impact and struggling with a 10 pound Massachusetts trigger! I *know* that this gun is even more accurate and will prove so when I get a better trigger.

Guinea you seem to be a pretty good shot to me. I just got back from the range with my M&P 40 and I wish my targets looked like that. How do you like shooting at that Megasport? I am also from the area and have a brother in plainfield. I was thinking about going to visit him and stopping by the range. I shoot at a little dive of a range. I know it is probably more $ but do u think I should give it a try? I think they rent guns there too don't they?

All pistols fired standing 2 handed Weaver stance. I never shoot from a rest.

Whats the little "dive"? Rinks in Lockport? Even though its twice the distance from my home I prefer to go to Rinks. Much nicer people there. Plus $8 to shoot all day instead of $22 at Mega. The only major benefit to shooting at Mega is it's air conditioned. Rinks is not of course, and it gets damn hot in the summer. But still $8 to shoot and only $6 to rent guns is hard to pass up.

Yes they rent guns at Mega as well. Its $11 for pistols and $15 for carbines and small caliber rifles. And you HAVE to buy/use their ammo. And they are quite expensive there on ammo. Like $12 per 50 of Blazer Brass in 9mm. I get that at Walmart for $7.

As a matter of fact, I'll be going to Rinks next weekend on Saturday. I'm stocked up on 9mm and my brother in law is itching to go shooting again. If thats where you happen to go, maybe meet us up there? Let me know.

I am from the chicago area. I am east of you and my bro, but I thought I might make a trip and combine a visit by my bro and go to a range. I shoot in Glenwood. The price in Glenwood is $9 for an hour. Rinks hugh? The prices sound pretty good I'll have to look that up.
I really feel for you guys who have to pay by the hour or by the day to shoot. Pretty soon the fees will be so high that no one will be able to afford to shoot, which is probably just what the anti's intend.

If at all possible, get together and start a club. Think of ways to earn money. Rent or buy land. Build an indoor range or outdoor range at first and then expand.

My club has 80 acres, double trap, double skeet, outdoor archery, outdoor primitive area, cowboy action shooting area, steel plate and pin range, 70 position outdoor range to 100 yards, indoor archery, indoor 16 position 50 foot range, stocked trout pond, and picnic area. We are not unique for facilities here, and we are within 25 miles of Boston, MA! Those who came before were long term planners.
