Could you please give some background info on this issue? Why, what happened and how they broke would help, I had not heard of any issues.

All of mine came from full size 40s. It looks like Tarheelbball has a compact.

I found these after Officers completed their 6 month qualifications. None of them had realized that they broke. The guns continued to function normally.

S&W states that the original design had a 90° bend that caused the metal to break at that point under stress. The new design has a radius.

Good to know. I have several M&P's. 3 full size 9's, 2 full size 40's, a full size 45, 3 Shields and 2 M&P 22's. For a non-certified armouror (i.e. not a Guns Smith, more of a Gun Plumber), is this a part that Smith will send, or, do the guns have to be sent back in just in case I have a failure? The would not send me sear housings.

Yes. The only time they use the slidestop is to manually lock the slide open to see that the weapon is empty.

I think you would have to send your pistol back for repair if you wanted it replaced for free. But Brownells sells them for $18.
