Hello all,

My wife and I are new M&P9 owners as of 2 weeks ago. It is our first firearm purchase. So far I love it, but my wife is having some trouble with it jamming. The owner of the range we went to said it was due to my wife not holding the gun firmly enough and therefore absorbing a lot of the kinetic energy that the gun needs to cycle properly. We have not been to the range since then, but hopefully this weekend we'll have some time to go through a couple boxes of rounds.

What range do you go to Chopperwolf? I am from the Massillon area.

May I recommend this range if you don't know about it already in Canal Fulton... good group of folks and they offer lessons that will help you both. Ask for Adam Knoles on the weekends.

Learn the proper stance and grip! Shoot 500 plus rounds through it! Have lots and lots of fun!

Also, pics please!

Yeah. He did say that too. The one thing that I did do was to get the DPM Recoil Reduction spring and installed it. I fired about 10 rounds after installing it and must say that I didn't really notice a difference, but we'll see how my wife likes it.

That's the place!
We went last weekend on Sunday (the weekend we got the gun) and then we went on this past Saturday night to watch the shoot they do on Saturday nights (maybe you were there?) I am very interested in doing that, but being new to gun ownership, I feel that I should be a little more comfortable with the gun first. Can't be too safe. We met "Brian" on Saturday and he was VERY helpful and a great guy to talk to. Had a lot of great info.

I have a Revolution holster and dual mag holder on order through Blade-Tech. Should be arriving next week with any luck. I think that we are planning to go this Saturday night again to watch. Brian said that it would be a little different.

Hey Jeff, are you going to be at the Midwest Gun Club tonight for the IDPA shoot? If so, maybe we'll see you there.

No Chopperwolf.

I was in Ashland for one of my kids events and trick-or-treating Saturday night. Did make it to Fin, Feather & Fur Outfitters while there. Picked up some snap caps and a powder measure for reloading.

My Mom lives close to Canal Fulton but I live up in Akron. The ranges I typically get a chance to go to are the Riverside range in Cuyahoga Falls or the Marksman in Barberton.

I do have some range coupons to use up at Midwest Gun club but not sure when I will make it there.

How is your accuracy going with the M&P? I am still working on accuracy.

Hey Welcome- one way to help your wife's gun would be to run a lighter recoil spring- that way her grip has to overcome less energy. It works, trust me!

Hi, Chopperwolf. I occasionally shoot in IDPA up at Midwest. I'm the nerdy looking 27yr old with glases, jean jacket, and an M&P40. My name is Chris, and if you happen to see me up there, say hi and feel free to ask me questions. I've been shooting at Kelbly's outside of Orrville lately, so I really only get up to Midwest for the IDPA matches, when I'm not working the Saturday night. Adam is the guy to know. Watch out for Travis (bulky guy, doesn't shut up, has an attitude). He can be okay, but I have yet to see him be anything resembling helpful with new people. He mans the range during the day. He can certainly shoot, but with his personality, he has to have something to fall back on.

BTW, WELCOME!!!!!

You too, Jeff. Sheesh, it's like this forum has become an NE Ohio shooters site.

Accuracy is alright I suppose. I went to Midwest last night and threw about 120 rounds through it. Started at about 30' and then moved it to 50'. It seems like it's shooting a little to the left, but it could just be me  . I did swap the springs around to see if I could really tell a difference with the stock and DPM. I guess there's a little difference, but not as dramatic as I was hoping for. For me it feels just fine either way, but I was hoping the recoil would be significantly reduced for my wife. I guess she'll just need more range time to iron out the bugs.

Hey Chris, my name is also Chris.
The IDPA shoot last night was pretty cool. I can't wait for my holster to get shipped so I can participate too. It wasn't as much fun to just watch. I met Adam last week and as fast as he shoots, I thought he had an automatic pistol!
I'm not sure if I have met Travis or not. Based on your description, I don't think I have because literally everyone I have ever met there has been really cool and didn't seem to have an attitude. That bowling pin shoot on Wednesdays sounds pretty fun too.
