Just got my M&P .40 yesterday. I'm a previous owner of a Sig P228 9mm which I bought about 3 months before Sig came out with their .40 cals back in the early 1990's. I thought the Sig was a very well made pistol and liked the controls but it just didn't fit well in my hand. The M&P just fits nice and points naturally for me.

I'm a total novice when it comes to pistols even though I'm a pretty darn good rifle shooter. I was on the Oregon National Guard combat rifle team from 2001-2003 and I went distinguished rifle in 2003. I also got the German Shutzenschnur in Gold back in 1989 which was a lot of fun. Cleaning G-3's was so much more fun while downing flagons of Bundeswehr issue beer.

I'm looking forward to learning lots from you pistol experts and I'm gonna start attending some pistol classes soon to build up my skills.

BTW, some of you may know my co-worker Captain Ray. He's prone to exaggeration and drunkenness and you can't believe a word he says. Pay no attention to any stories he tells about my various addictions to pornography and cheap tequila.

Cheap Tequila? I would never accuse you of that!! Cheap Vodka.. yes.. but not the Tequila! Now.. your addiction to pornography is very real.. and if you don't mind my saying so, a little disturbing.. you sick b*st*rd!!!!!

Actually.. Talilback, AKA "Darwin" is my good friend, and go to guy for most things gun. Don't let him deceive you, he is very knowledgeable about handguns.. how they work, how they are built, ballistics, etc... it's just that he has always been a "rifle guy", and hasn't shot a lot of pistols.

In fact, Tailback is who turned me onto this pistol. As I noted in my introductory post, this individual researches the crud out of every purchase he ever makes.. I figured, if it was a good enough pistol for him, I couldn't go wrong. Darwin was right again!!

I will be attending some training courses with him... I have a lot of time shooting bullets from pistols, but not nearly enough time under the scrutiny of an instructor.. I look forward to taking some classes down at the Oregon Firearms Academy with him. The training isn't really very expensive, and will yield good results for the both of us.
