HOME DEPOT IS OFF LIMITS! MAYBE NOT!

I recently discovered that Home Depot is CPZ by corporate policy. All locations. Now if you have good preemption in your state it doesn't matter but here in Ohio it means no more HD for Me!

Whats CPZ?
CPZ means Criminal Protection Zone. No hand guns allowed.

I think I should have posted this on the CCW forum. If I can't move this would a Mod please do so.
Concealed Carry is simply that... But if you feel like Home Depot is doing you wrong, you need to let them know... But what they dont know, wont hurt them in the case of CC...

Interesting the way they worded that. Is this to protect criminals?

Silly bespectacled bureaucrats don't seem to realize that BG's don't always comply with posted signs!
I'm not sure that CPZ is actually a legal term or if it is a jab at the gun free propaganda. This term is quoted from www.ohioccw.org

I have submitted this store in particular and Home Depot in general to ohioccw for addition to their "Do not patronize while armed" list.

I also filed a formal complaint with their(HD) customer service line and spoke in person with the manager of the store and gave him some informative literature from ohioccw and a rather amusing alternative sign. I wish i could post the sign here but I'm not sure how to as it is a PDF file. it can bee seen here;

I'm building a house here in NC right now, and everytime I go into Home Depot, I have mine on whether it's concealed or not, no one at HD has said anything to me yet, and our local store does not have one of the little signs on the door as of yet.
I carry all the time at Home Depot.. By South Carolina State Law.. They have to have a specific sign up and it has to be a specific size and everything.. As long as they don't have a No Concealed Weapons sign.. I am not going worry about it.. But the moment they put up a sign.. I will start going to Lowes..

Are you sure it is a corporate policy? I know that rumor has floated around gun forums for years, but here is an email sent from Home Depot's corporate office regarding CCW:

Dear XXXX,

Thank you for contacting The Home Depot Customer Care.

You are correct. That sign should have been removed. We have contacted

the Management team at the Midtown Memphis Home Depot to have them

remove the sign immediately.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

The Home Depot does not prohibit anyone who is legally permitted to

carry firearms from entering our stores, provided the firearms are

carried in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

If you would like to speak with a Customer Care professional, please

call us at 1-800-553-3199 (USA) or 1-800-668-2266 (Canada). We would

like to provide you a ticket number as a record of your concern. Your

number is [xxxxxxx].

Sincerely,

Shelby

Customer Care Department

This was their position in 2004.

If that is their corp. policy, it has changed just recently.

However, be that as it may, Lowes is CCW friendly.
I like the looks of that Chooch, but after an hour on the phone with their customer care dept. all I could get was "Our policy is absolutely no guns!"

This is same story that I got from the manager. "Totally out of my hands."

I'll try again and see if I can get a hold of this Shelby.
Back in the day there was a lot of confusion because some store managers were establishing their own anti-carry policies for their stores. It was made worse by Home Depot's customer service not being in tune with corporate, or vice versa.

They could have changed back though. I'm only posting this since Home Depot's policy has been so misunderstood in the past, even by their own people.

There are no signs here in California anyway so it doesn't really affect me. Then again, even if there were signs they carry no force of law so they are irrelevant.

Lowe's is ccw/oc friendly where allowed by law. Lowe's offer's military discounts on purchases up to $5,000 vs. HD's $2,000. Lowe's also does MD's on days other than just Memorial Day depending on location. Lowe's also price matches ANY store - period - even the military BX prices which are tax free. Good luck getting HD to do that.

Why is it people still shop at the big ugly orange store? Everytime I've been in one it's been a big black and orange clusterf___ of confusion.
Chooch,

As usual, it looks like you are correct sir!

I called HD customer service again. This time the gentleman on the other end knew exactly where to look (last call I was put on hold 5 times while she "searched the data base") and he quoted almost verbatim the email that you posted earlier.

He said he would call the store manager and tell him the policy. He also stated that no local manager is allowed to change this policy.

This was from the same customer service department that I talked to earlier. Go Figure!

I'll wait to see if the sign comes down before I retract my recommendation for the Do not patronize list.

You are all wrong... it means criminals can run in home depot and not get shot.. they are protected by the law against law abiding citizens
If you shoot them before they enter a home depot its perfectly legal to shoot them.

FWIW, there was an armed robbery in a local Home Depot last year. The manager on duty normally worked at a different store, but was at this store filling in. He came over to see what the commotion was all about and was shot and killed.

Actually Lowes has recently announced they will no longer offer a military discount. I saw the flyer at our local Lowes, can you believe that especially in a military town.
boycott... damn greedy corporate white guys

I'm not sure that applies to customers. I think that is an employee policy.

The reason I say that is here in Virginia Beach they built a new Home Depot down in the Strawbridge area the new building came complete with No Gun signs. One of the VCDL members saw it and contacted the store manager.

He stated that the signs should not have been put up, that was a cookie cutter type of deal by the builders, and he had the signs removed. No other Home Depot or Lowes in this area has signs so as far as I'm concerned CCW is perfectly acceptable
