Is there a gun brand you just hate? One you wouldn't take a gun from at all?

Some of the ones I commonly see so many complaints about on various forums include: Taurus, Kimber, Hi Point, SCCY and Kahr...

Do you absolutely hate one of these brands, or some other brand?

Keltec is one of those companies that uses 'YFS' Taiwanese bolts. YFS bolts are low quality and have a tendency to break and/or strip (not grade 8). Spikes Tactical uses YFS for the gas keys on their bolt carriers.

Turkish guns. Kimber. Taurus. Glock (grip size and angle, but still have a 19.5 for a truck gun).

Try the Canik Mete series. It will change your mind about Turkish guns (y):)

I was very frustrated and disappointed with my first and only experience with Taurus. I had high hopes for my G3 but it would never feed HP reliably. Sent for repair 3 times and traded for a new one. Still same problem. Gave up and traded for a Canik Mete SFT. Never looked back.

If you haven't given those "I hate" guns a chance, at least to handle, if not to try on a range, why do you list them other than you don't like the low price or the previous reputation? I respect those who have valid reasons for not liking various guns - the Glock grip angle is a real point of "not like" for a lot of people.

Just wondering. One example from my own experience:

To all of you who are KelTec haters: I wanted one more brand of .22lr handgun for a range fun plinker. Didn't need - just wanted. I eliminated all the brands that "the guys" on the forums I belong to recommended, had and enjoyed. They just did not work for me for various reasons. That left only KelTec P17 that had any interest for me at all. I finally found one store that had one in stock. The grip was a good fit, the trigger was fine (not wonderful, but fine) and it pointed naturally for me. So for $200 (plus tax, etc.) what the heck. That little gun is a real SHOOTER! I even have a holster that works for it. And it comes with three (3) 16 round magazines, an adjustable rear sight and a tiny fiber optic front sight.

The only thing that was initially a bit of a challenge on the range is the fact that it weighs next to nothing, and at first I was flinching - maybe because of the super light weight of the gun in my hand? One of my friends who is a very good shot ran one magazine through it and was all over the paper. She shoots a Walther PDP-F and it is large and relatively heavy and she said my P17 was like "shooting a feather."

I know nothing about any other KelTec models, but I do know this one. There is not a thing wrong with it other than it looks weird with that flat bar as most of the slide, leaving 'ejection port' openings on both sides instead of just one side. Would I use it for my carry gun? At this point in my life I would not use any .22lr for a carry gun so that is a moot point.

My other .22's? S&W M&P .22 compact which I still recommend to others; and Browning 1911-22 which is very "pretty" and I like mostly because of the 1911 grip angle, but which does not shoot any better for me than the 'redheaded stepchild' KelTec. I also bought a Ruger Mark IV Lite but after way too much trouble with the magazines and having to spend another $200 on Volquartsen parts to make it shoot properly, I "divorced" it in disgust. Hubby is having a ball with it now, though.
You tell it, Granny! 👍

I likely will never buy a Canik, but I cannot say I hate them.

I probably did; until I dry fired one.
Shooting it is even better! 👍

These no longer get carried, or shot at IDPA; cause they’ve been replaced by the Caniks (at @ 1/5 the price):

Ahhhh. Another convert :) I am fairly new with firearms so don't have my own experience to compare. My LGS told me that I needed to trade my problematic Taurus G3 for a Mete SFT. Said that workers in their store were trading their Glocks for Caniks. Checked reviews and the experts seemed to back that up. I understand that the earlier models had some issues but the latest Mete series are amazing. Took the leap and never regretted it. Even as a newbie I could immediately tell the difference in fit, finish and function. Looking for something new? Try it, you will love it. (y)

I had a Kimber from the period they made them with external extractors and it never extracted well (shocking). I called them and they sent me a new "redesigned" extractor that actually worked well, but I never really trusted it after that, and eventually bought a new slide for it. I also had a Beretta 92fs that must have been built on a Friday. It sucked. It wouldnt fire half the time and the extractor pin kept popping out of the slide. I couldnt wait to sell it!
