I've decided on an IWB leather holster for my 1st holster. However, what's the real differences between holsters with clips and those with straps/snaps? Without ever trying one, I would think it possible, with clips, to pull the holster out and off of the belt when drawing the pistol. Is that an issue, or is it just a matter of cosmetics?

It really depends on how well the clips fit onto your belt and the quality of the belt. I have used Kydex holsters with belt clips and as long as they are seated properly haven't had a problem. I will say however that I am anxiously awaiting my Fist holster which I ordered with snap straps. I guess we'll see shortly which I prefer.

Really depends on the clips. I know the ones Josh Bulman, and Lou Alessi use are meant to just go over you pants and under the belt and those buggers do not come out easy. I have had some holsters with the metal clips and have had them come out with the gun.

I have never had much luck with clips, but in all honesty, I think it is more related to my belt choice than clip performance. I wear a Wilderness Instructors belt which is nowhere near as thick as a regular leather gun belt. Every time I have tried to use clips they have not been very reliable, so i just use loops. Loops really arent that much slower or difficult when it comes to removal or placement.

I prefer the Pull-the-dots (snaps). Its much more secure. I have a FIN kydex holster made for an XD that a friend gave me that has leather straps and snaps. If your talking about the metal clip like the Hume 715 its ok but it squirms around more. The only time I had it pull out of my pants on the draw was when the holster was new and not broken in. Also, the clip could use its spring as it gets older.
