Ordered them straight from S&W.

Yeah, probably about $5 more than what MidwayUSA will sell them for - though midway doesnt list them yet. I figured $10 (2 mags) is nothing, so I went ahead and got them. Ill need at least 4 to start with: 2 for the range and 2 for HD (I hate loading and unloading mags) - and Im assuming that 2 will come with the M&P-9

Ha ha, no sign of an M&P-9 yet, but if the mags are available ... maybe there will be a gun to put them in soon, right? We'll see.

Ok, package has been shipped.

Received a tracking number, and mags should arrive on the 6th.

On a related note, S&W customer service rep told me (via email) that the M&P-9 should ship "in about a month".

Hmm ... if I can order 9mm mags, I wonder if I can order a 9mm barrel too. I can build my own M&P-9.

Well, at least Ill have mags to load (store) my 124+P Gold Dots.

(Using 115 Silvertips in my 3914.)

Well, the mags are done by an outside contractor (Mecgar?), who obviously has all their ducks in a row.

When asked about what the delay (with S&W) was, one local shop owner, said that there was a steel (4130, 4140) shortage, which is what the barrels are made from. He said he heard this from Kimber - which cant supply enough barrels for their [Kimber] models.

I dont believe any of that though. My company buys 4130/4140 by the ton (maybe we are the cause of the shortage), and Im not even sure thats what the M&P barrels are made from. Though, let hope its not 416 stainless ... KaBoom!

Ok, just to close out this thread ...

I received my 9mm magazines last night.

Looks just like the .40 mags, only stamped with a "9mm" marking (and has extra "counting holes" for the higher capacity.

Mags arrived "loose" (no individual wrappers or packaging) in a medium-sized "bubble" envelope. I was a bit disappointed by this. No protection from one another, and definately not enough protection from shipping damage (or poor handling). However, I noticed no obvious damage or scratches on my two samples. I have not disassembled the mags yet.

My guess is that the mags were plucked out of a bin on (or headed to) the assembly line.

Round #17 is a tight fit. I normally down-load one round anyway, and I might do two (to 15 rounds) with these mags. The load may loosen up with actual use though. Obviously, I couldnt test its functionality/reliability in an actual weapon.

Just ordered my M&P 9mm

I found one on www.autionarms.com which is an auction site affiliated with the NRA. Got mine from Woodbury Outfitters for 470$ BRAND NEW with the grips and 2 of the 17 round mags. I'll tell you how it shoots by the end of the week. I've been carrying around pictures in my wallet I'm so freaking excited!

I know how you feel. I pick mine up in about a week. No waiting period, just a depleted budget.
