i've been competing with my 686 wheel gun for a couple of years now, and am ready to try some accurate reloads with the hope of improving MY accuracy...

if anybody has any good target loads to share for 158gr semi-wadcutters, i'd appreciate it....

just got in a box of 500 of those 158's and would like to start loading some up !

thanks...

I shot PPC for years using a S&W mod 13 customized for that use, my standard load was/is 3.1 gr of 231 behind a 148 gr wadcutter, same load should work fine with the 158 gr SWC as well. Another load that I'm using in a different competition is 3.0 gr of Trail Boss behind a 148 gr TC, it works extremely well, and 3.0 gr fills up the 38 special case half way, a double charge of Trail Boss fills a case to the rim, it was designed for use with lead bullets, and it's very bulky (on purpose), it meters better than any other pistol powder I've ever seen.

I agree with G56. I haven't shot 158gr SWC since I started shooting 146gr HBWC.

I'd try bracket (2.9, 3.0, 3.2, & 3.3) the 3.1 of 231 and see what groups the best for you and your revolver.
