Posting the photo doesn't do much good. Why not a link to the listing you saw?

But, as evolution said, if it was out there we probably would have already heard about it.

I thinks its BS. The magazine is too big, the ejection port is wide, looks like a 9mm or a .40. It was probably doctored to look like a .22. Photoshop is a wonderful thing.

I don't claim to be an expert, but if you google M&P22 and the model number (222000), several dealers have them in their catalogues (though none apparently have them in stock), including Lipseys.

I would buy that gun in a heartbeat, but whether its a reality remains to be seen.....

I am crappy with computers but did a quick search on Google and found at least 5 or 6 places that have them listed with a stock # 122000. Some of these would be Sporting Arms, Lipseys, Gun Source, On Point Firearms and of course Buds along with one or two othersMost said "Image coming soon" and the prices ranged from the $350's to $400. Most advertised a 4.1 inch barrel length but one site also had a 6 inch listed as well. All sites had them with Aluminum and Poly and all were out of stock. Could it be true? That was just a quick search and shows quite a few places advertising something that isn't available. Can they all be wrong? I'm not holding my breat but I would sure like on eor two of them. Not sure I like the Aluminum slide idea but it should work fine.

That is SUPER interesting...

Anyone have anymore info on this?

EDIT: On the phone with smith right now. This is REAL...more info forthcoming, they dont have much to tell me but i will let you know what i find.

EDIT 2.0: Ok guys. Its being made by Walther in Germany, not in house by Smith. I wish it was a genuine Smith product but for a .22 it should be "good enough". MSRP is 419.99 so we should see this in the range that buds has theirs listed. There are two versions, 10 and 12 rounders. The gentleman that i spoke with had no info about whether or not the thumb safety worked but im hoping it does.

They are expecting an order of 2500 units in April of 2011.

NEAT!

Thank you for running that down for us. If it was a real S&W I would have ordered it from Bud's sight unseen. Not sure what I think about a Walther made one. Opinions?

Edited to add: And kudos to Mikexaz2323 for first posting about it!

Edited again to add: I thought so, but had to look it up - Walther made the "Colt" branded 22LR M4gery and most people seem to prefer the real M&P15-22 instead. Also, Walther's own 22 pistol, the P22 - I seem to recall lots of post about problems such as feed and eject, but I could be wrong.

Again, what do the rest of you think about this (Walther, that is)?

The Colt Umarex Walther AR15 style .22's are absolute abortions and should never have been made. There are Airsoft guns out there that feel better and probably shoot better than that steaming pile of crap.

Having said that, Walther does have potential to produce a decent .22 ala the P22. Does the P22 have issues? Yes it certainly does but it works (mostly) for what it is.

Oddly enough, the S&W CS rep that i spoke with said two very interesting things.

1. "We should have come out with this years ago".

2. "We should be making this ourselves".

At this point im in a bit of a bind as i do not own a .22 LR training pistol so i will probably go against my better judgement and buy this thing anyway. Shot Show 2011 will determine my course of action. If Tacsol or any of the other .22 conversion specialists actually give us a solid release date for a conversion kit there is NO doubt in my mind that i will be going the conversion route. If this .22LR pistol is our ONLY option for an M&P trainer then im going to bite the bullet so to speak and get one.

Im that hard up for a .22LR M&P trainer.

Hopefully the pistol will work well enough to be somewhat reliable and the manufacturing and build quality will be well above the Umarex/colt piece of ****.

For the time being, I'm going to hide and watch.
Looks and sounds good, I'd like to see if there's many (if any), bugs. I'd feel better (and more than likely get one), if they were made here in the USA by S&W.
I'm with you on this Max, I am going to "hide and watch" also. In the meantime, even though it isn't an M&P, I'll keep shooting my Browning Buck Mark when I want 22LR pistol trigger time.

I miss my Buck Mark.

Based on the Bud's picture, it sure as heck looks like a "real" M&P. The aluminum slide is disappointing, but it seems all of the double action .22s have them.

After trying a Sig Mosquito and a ISSC M22 (.22 Glock 19 clone), I recently bought a gsg 1911, and I like it VERY much. Stone reliable and very accurate, with a great trigger. And being a 1911 clone, it points like a M&P.

I wonder if the whole pistol is made by Walther or just the slide and barrel. I agree with most I wish it was made in house by S&W then I would get one. I will probably skip on this one. I guess S&W has got to keep the lesser of the 2 happy with there relationship/partnership.

Hmmm... like others have expressed... we'll wait and see on this one. The Walther P22 isn't the most reliable and bombproof .22LR pistol out there, so if this is indeed engineered by Walther and not S&W, then waiting and seeing how they turn out might be wise.

On the other hand, the S&W 15-22 is one heckuva well-done .22 rifle, even though it uses a lot of polymer. It had early problems, but S&W has tweaked and re-engineered the gun to iron almost everything out in the latest revisions. It is perhaps the most faithful .22LR platform for the AR-15 out there in terms of function compared to its big sibling.

April 2011 sounds so far away!

I'm a bit partial to my old Olympic Grade High Standard Victor 22LR with the vented rib and weighted barrell. Had it a looooong time and it is a great shooter. Can't argue about the Browning, those are fun shooters too.

Just got off the phone with phone with Smith & Wesson customer service. The M&P 22LR model # 122000 is a real product and they expect a release date of February 2011. Apparently they released the information to some of their high volume dealers as sort of a market test to gauge the production level prior to putting them on the market.
