Someone declares a gun junk without firing a round?????

I guess some people really are better off without guns!!

I understand wanting to be able to clear live rounds but it sounds like he wasn't doing it properly any way.
To ensure that I didn't cause any malfunction, I pushed the grip with my left hand and pulled the slide with my right and then let it slam full-force into battery

Too bad the guy had the problem. Mine wasn't perfect from the git go, but I kind of expect that in a new design of anything. S&W took care of the problem, So big deal. I haven't known many perfect women either. Errr second thought....... none. (Hope my wife don't read this!) Couple of new car models I had for instance, got recalled several times.

I plan on getting a compact M&P 40 as soon as they are available. I would think Smith & Wesson has got all the bugs out of tooling and design by now, but if they don't I'm sure they will fix it. Wish I could get my hands on a demo to try out.

I really, really like my M&P.

MP's know when to play sick......

First of all I didn't think you could use that kind of language on most gun forums. I've never seen that kind of language used on any other gun forum. Guess he's been reading too much on the "moveon .orgy" liberal site or AOL forums. I think I'll join their AR15 forum just to complain! Did the moderator go to sleep?

My MP40 wouldn't work right for him either! MP's know a good owner from a bad owner. This one just wanted to be returned, IMO!

ar15 and other places get a bit colorful. Not that I never use that language in real life, but if you want a forum to be more serious and less BS, it seems requesting it be avoided keeps a lot of the problem children away.

As for the bashing, it sounds like what he was desribing was a failure to eject, not feed. Sure you should test hand cycling a weapon to see if you can clear jams/duds/etc, but unless this guy is a lefty, it sounds like hew was doing something screwed up.

I'm no fan of the S&W 1911 due to the huge roll mark on the slide. But i have heard very little other than praise for the gun.

I suspect one of two things. Either the guy in question is the problem, or he shops at a gun store that accepts returns, but doesn't actually get them fixed, and just starts condensing a supply of lemons.

Agreed. The actual gun forums on AR15.com are usually void of the colorful discussion, general discussion is where you run into trouble. One place I try to stay out of.

I've read it a couple of times and it sounds to me like he just has an axe to grind with S&W on the polymer models. I try to steer people to this site who are interested in the M&P platform.

How is the M&P the sigma 3.0?

it has a different shaped frame, different frame inserts, a different slide shape, different dimensions, a different striker, a different action, and it takes different magazines, different magazine release, different takedown mechanism, grip angle, etc.

Other than the actual bit of the trigger poking out everything is different.

It isn't even remotely the same gun.

I own 4 S&W pistols and in 20 years I have never had a failure. Shot them dirty, cheap ammo, etc. Not one failure. Bought the M&P 9 and that pistol is perfect also. Here is the report about some recent testing of the M&P. Columbus OH PD and Dallas/Fort Worth airport police. Seem pretty reliable to me. With some folks if its not imported it's chit. Sad. Let them bash this.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Smith & Wesson Holding Corporation SWHC, parent company of Smith & Wesson Corp., the legendary 154-year old firearms maker, announced today that it has secured contracts to supply the Columbus, Ohio Police Department and the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport Police (DFW) with the company's advanced-design polymer pistol, the M&P40. The agreements call for 1,875 M&P40 pistols to be shipped to the Columbus Police Department and 305 M&P40 pistols to be shipped for use by DFW Airport police officers.

After an extensive evaluation process, both departments indicated that the M&P40 incorporates key features that provide accuracy, durability and flexibility for use in duty. During performance testing completed by the Columbus Police Department, over 60,000 rounds were fired through six M&P40 pistols, with no malfunctions recorded. In conjunction with the testing, an additional rapid-fire test was conducted and 2,500 rounds were fired through one pistol in 40 minutes. Officials at both the Columbus Police Department and the DFW Airport Police indicated that the M&P40 performed flawlessly through each test.

Sergeant Dana Winship, Columbus Division of Police, said, "Trying to find a pistol to match the range of hand sizes of the 1,800 officers at the Columbus Police Department, along with insuring accuracy, durability, and the stopping power needed for police work, was a daunting effort. After an extensive evaluation of the various makes of pistols available, the M&P40 proved to be superior in all aspects. Smith and Wesson developed the M&P pistol with the police officer in mind. The M&P40 is an ergonomic, lightweight yet controllable pistol with ambidextrous capabilities, excellent accuracy and a crisp, smooth trigger pull. The officers on the street deserve the best equipment available. Smith & Wesson stepped up and delivered that with the M&P."

Not another one!!!

sure a number of people here would bash S&W Sigma despite the fact they own S&W Sigma 3.0 aka M&P

I can't beleive it. Another Sigma = MP statement! I own both, I like both, and there is no comparison. Apparently you haven't shot either.

And I wouldn't bash a Sigma. My SW9VE has never had any kind of failure.

My M & P 40 has taken everything I have thrown at it without failure. Cheap ammo, expensive and everything in between. Soemthing everyone should keep in mind is all auto loaders need to be "broken in" before you can truly rely on them. Some work great right out of the box, but most need to "seat" them selves in. They are machines, it is thier nature. I would not trust a weapon for CCW until I have fired a minimum of a 1000 rounds thru it, and at least 200 being the ammo I intend to use for SD. Sounds expensive I know, but you can't put a price on your life.

Agreed, I own both in 9mm and they have both been flawless, with 4600 rounds in the Sigma and 2000 in the M&P, They have both been perfect but they are nothing alike, in looks parts, design, or trigger action.
