M&P Compact vs. Springfield Armory XD SubCompact

7025 Views 32 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  chp5
I currently have the fullsize M&P but would like to get one a bit smaller for carry. Now I have this difficult dilemna. Should I go with the XD SubCompact or hold out a little longer and go for the little brother M&P? I have the opportunity to pick up the XD for $399. From what I can find this is a pretty good price, in fact the same I paid for my M&P. What should I do?

Thanks

If you like the M&P try and hold out for the compact. It will make logisitcs easier since im sure some parts will interchange and the full size magazines should fit in the compact.
C'mon ... The answer to this question is soooo easy ...

Get 'em BOTH!

Sounds like a great price on the XD, and if this is becoming "more than a hobby", it might be nice to add a different flavor to the mix.

Definitely wait to get the M&P Compact. Then you will have 2 pistols of the same platform that can share mags.
If you decide to get something besides the M&P, be sure to look at the Glock 26.
I originally had full intentions of getting an XD but I like my M&P so much that I started thinking about the compact. I wish I could just get both but unfortunately being a law student doesn't provide the necessary finances. I guess this reversion of thought is my patience getting the better of me. Like the rest of you, I'm sure, I am just so anxious to get my hands on one of the little guys. Hopefully soon.

Guys I would go with the M&P. I get alot of calls about XD's failing and people want it fixed. I have seen alot of feeding and extracting problems with the XD. I teach over 60 days a year and see alot of guns and the Xd is not holding up. The magazines are to soft also they dent and bend way to easy which causes fedding trouble. I used to carry an XD but after what Iv'e seen about the quality control I would not depend my life on one. I know there are alot of good ones out there but way to many bad ones. I hope this helps. CHECK 360 David.
I went through a brief love affair with the XD..... Till I shot it.

M&P all the way!

Agreed! My P-99's can share mags. Nice feature.

I have seen the same things with XDs also. I would stick with Glock if you don't want a M&P.

I have two XD's.. one in 9mm and one in 45acp.. I have never experienced a hiccup.. not a stove pipe, not a misfire, not anything! I also used to be a member at XD Talk.. I got banned.. twice.. but that is another story..

I love my M&P for the same reasons as most love their M&P's.. but there is nothing wrong with the XD..(Edit by Moderator for negative personal comments) I have never even heard of an extraction problem with the XD's. It does throw shells over your head.. if that is a problem.. wear a hat!!

cracked locking blocks, and replacing my entire pistol, and wouldn't tell me the reason?? I had 4, 1 snubby, 1 tac, and 2 service. all had the locking block issue, and one they replaced the pistol. Great service if you never want to see your firearm.

I to still love the XD, but will never own another. Reasons: no replacement parts for sale, and poor metalurgy(sp)
I've got about 10,000 through my XD9.. I did replace the guide rod with one of Don's at about 5,000 rounds.. a 22 lb. spring makes the gun pretty much as muzzle flip free as the M&P comes stock. I have not had a single problem with any part of the gun in all those rounds.

I too would like it if SA would provide parts.. but it's not like armorers cant get them.. I havn't been able to keep up with the situation.. because I have been banned from the site.. but if you need a part, I am sure AJames can get them for you.

It just pisses me off when GlockTalker types go spouting off about things that they no little or nothing about...

Raymond,

I think it would be best for the forum to refrain from calling Mr. Bowie's comments Bullshit. His sampling size is larger than yours and he is a respected gunsmith and trainer. You may have good examples with your few XDs, but the guns he has seen have not been so good.

ETA: Mr. Bowie and the other industry partners here are an asset to the forum. I would hate for them to go away because of little hot heads.
Sound like you got a good one CR. Keep it. A lot of people have had trouble with their XDs. I have personally seen 3 XDs that would not run 100%. This is kind of like Kahr pistols being made right now. Some are good, some aren't. It's hard to recommend a pistol with a iffy quality track record.

Any individual should be able to order their own parts. I was hesitant to buy the M&P until parts were available to me.

I appreciate your advice.. but I know bullshit when I see it.

I don't spend as much time and money on my 2nd amendment rights to give ground on my first. I will gladly read paragraph after paragraph about a guns positives, as well as it's negatives.. but it annoys me to death (Edit by Moderator for negative personal comments)

WOW. How do you know the particular guns that he was handling were "perfectly good"????
So Captain Ray,

Why should we believe you over David Bowie? What are your qualifications to comment on any firearm? Have you even bothered looking at his site or finding out more about him before insulting him? You think your 2 guns are a large enough sample compared to Mr. Bowie's sample and hard use of scores of not hundreds of XDs?

I hope the moderators please step in here.

I just know that my two XD's are perfectly good.. and I should know better than getting into this kind of pissing match. It is a brand based nobility, that serves no good.. and I should have not let myself get sucked into it....

I appologize...

But the XD ROCKS'!! I love that gun!!

But I also love Sigs, Kimbers, SKYY, and pretty much every other gun.. except for GLOCKS... those don't fit my hand very well... although they are a very reliable gun...

David Bowie is a fine singer.. (edited by admin).. I don't know what this has to do with anything though...
