Interesting thread. Alot of bashing on the M&P and alot of people talking positive about it. Just shows how much impact the M&P has in the glock world.

4. Commercial (non-LEO) versions have a magazine disconnect, which renders the pistol not usable for serious purposes. Although the disconnect is easily removed, obvious legal ramifications follow...
There are M&P's out there that are non-LEO that do not have the mag disconnect and trigger safety. I know because I have one. Sure, you may have to order it that way but they can be found. I probably would not have bought one either if that was all I could get.

It seems like there is some bashing on the trigger reset. The bottom line is, you have to know your gun. I think that if you are used to (insert brand name here), a new trigger will be different to you.

whats funny is some of my e-mails wanting to know why my e-mail has glockdoc in it when i give the glock nazis hell . i had one guy even tell me that they should( in his words) sue my ass for saying negative stuff about glocks and that a M&P will never be half the gun of a glock and i simply asked him if he had ever had any hands on with the M&P and he said and i quote, hell no ! its just a overpriced sigma ! end quote . it never seems to amaze me what idiots come out of the wood work and how shallow thinking some are . as one that owns just about every glock model they have ever made and been through the schools that i dont know what i am talking about ! well even darth vader came back from the darkside. thanks and good shooting .....celt

Yes indeed, you can. I just got an M&P 40 without the mag disconnect and internal safety. The SKU # is 209300. I asked my local gun store if they could order it. They did. And I have it.

I did ask if they could order the same M&P, without the mag disconnect and internal safety, but also with Night Sights. But, they said it was LEO.

Well, My friend and I went to the range one day and he brought his Glock 23 and I had my M&P40 of course.. He shot mine and I shot his.. The Glock didn't impress me.. It wasn't the first time I have shot a Glock.. But he was really impressed with my M&P40.. He said he could shoot it better then his Glock.. If it wasn't for him buying a house, he wanted to get an M&P40... With that statement being made, from what I have read on gun forums about Glocks vs M&P40.. Most of the bashers against the M&P40 have NEVER shot one...

There are two types of glock owners. Ones who have some brains and use them every now and then, and ones who bought their guns because tommy lee jones said so.

I don't bother having discussions with the latter as things like facts tend to get in the way of their unfounded emotional rantings.

If the glock works for you, they are great. I don't like the ergonomics or the trigger that is either clean and heavy or mushy and light. that's about it. They are reliable, but nothing much beyond any quality firearm. They aren't magic. They can jam from not being cleaned, they can jam from fouled magazines or damaged magazines, they can jam from limpwristing. Sounds about par.

Most of the glock shooters with brains either just don't want to part with the money for something not terrificly different, or are waiting a year for growing pains to be worked out and the aftermarket to develop to see if it is worth adding to the gunsafe.

For me, i wanted a .40 that had a 15 round capacity. Was considering a glock despite it being so-so for me, and test groped an M&P. It rocked.. end of story.

I belong to glocktalk.com and I have 2 glocks but the M&P is a nice looking firearm but for me I live in Mass so the full size is in state testing still I hope so is there compact but who knows when I will see one.

I will say there are some die hard glock fans on the forum and they can be anti anything but glock but most are good people you do get the buttheads but all forums have that.

I don't belong to grocktalk, I only post there. Most glock owners overdosed on the koolaid gaston puts out, to them glocks IS PERFECTION. I own a glock, throughout the years I've owned several. They're good guns, reliable and require very low maintenance. If you treat guns like you treat your lawn mower, then a glock is for you. Then again, there are good, reliable pistols from Sig, HK and Beretta. They all have fleas, including glocks.

There's no use arguing with them. I've been asked at the range how I like my M&P over a glock. I tell them that it's what a glock should be. Better grip, safer to disassemble than a glock and it's American made. I don't argue with them. Look at it this way, what's the point of winning a foot race against a midget?

I'm not LEO and I have an M&P40 with night sights, no lock & no mag disconnect...I just had my dealer order it that way...

Thanks, TC for the info! I was just relating what my dealer had told me. I wish I would have pursued it more and got mine with the NS's. I thought it sounded a little bogus just because the of the NS option.

I hope this will help someone else out there looking for that option.

I've had 4 Glock 17 shooters (all 4 officers with different degrees of firearms interest) dry-fire my new M&P 9. One didn't like it as well as his (which has the 3 1/2 lb. disconnector), one was very enthusiastic and liked the M&P trigger and hand fit much better, one said the pre-travel was longer but the actual pull is crisper, and one didn't comment at all. Guess I need to pin him down a bit. Not a scientific poll, but it's interesting how perceptions and brand loyalty can make judgements vary.

MP & Sigma alike?????

I don't know how anybody with any knowledge, of any kind about guns, would come up with "the MP has a Sigma trigger". What planet is he from!

I own a Sigma SW9VE and a MP40. There is no comparison. If my MP proves to be as reliabe as my Sigma it will be a great gun. And I am positive it will. Both are great guns but entirely different.

From what little I read of the Glock Forum thread (1st page) it seems the MP was holding it's on with the exception of a few Glockophiles. When S & W comes out with the 45's and the compacts there will be a landslide of pent up buyers (I'm one). Hope S & W is listening!

Personally, I think Glocks are pretty good guns and have earned the fan base, but, that siad, I have a long "want list" and I can't find a Glock anywhere on it. :?

I was also in that discussion prior to it be close. Typical of most glock posters or should I say loosers ( i.e 10mm4ever ,etc...) they have no clue as to what they are talking about and their atitude is if it's not an glock, than it's a piece of crap.

Like I stated before the M&P and other polymer based weapons improves on the already "good" glock pistol design.

I think as the world and magazines get an better look/review on the M&P, then it will become a stable gun in today's modern weapons.

The cheap glock with no interchangeable grips, no dove-tail front sight options, and it squareish slide is looking mighty old and unimpressive when you compare it to a M&P, XD,Steyr M/S series.

Time will tell but I honestly believe smith-wesson got it right with the new M&P
