Do you think the m&p is to big for ccw?

I was thinking about waiting for the compact to come out, but I really want to get one of these pistols. I bought a g19 for carry but I am reading lots of really good thing on the m&p. Maybe I will just have to get both someday.

thanks

Carrying a gun is a lifestyle choice. Dress to carry. You want a real gun in a real gunfight. So don't carry a small gun that is easy to carry but hard to shoot and you don't practice with. The smallest gun I carry is Glock 19. And don't believe you can not wear a vest. I have carried a gun every day for over 20 years. People not in the tight die hard gun circles don't know you have a gun under it. I have 2, 511 vests. Both have my company logo on them. And if anyone says anything. They ask if your a photographer. Buy a good IWB for light clothes and sweaters and a good on the belt for the vest or coats and for god sakes a good GUN belt. Then go out and be safe. Don't be lazy or fashionable be safe. I agree, I found a amish leathershop that made me a "gun belt" out of harness leather. I will bet you anything its better made than any one online and for 25$.

I'm not in the right area for vests. Its a dead giveaway. I wear IWB all the time. Its all about dressing to conceal.

You'd be surprised at how many condition white people never know. I went into the bank the other day, and had my weapon concealed, I am scanning and notice a guy that just came in wearing a blade-tec OWB holster with a shirt not hardly even covering it. No one noticed or cared. I kindly said "nice XD" and walked away... his face got red!

No, not at all. It's all about the right holster......like a Cross-breed IWB.

I'm a small guy, 5'6" and 140lbs. What do you guys think the best way to carry for someone my size would be? I was thinking SOB would be my only choice, but maybe an IWB or OWB could work as well?

I am not sure that SOB is such a great idea. I am 6' 2" and 210 pounds.. so carrying a mid sized gun is not much of an issue for me.. but SOB just plain seems like a bad idea. (that having been said, I carried today, indian style, SOB because I didn't have a holster for my new gun... but you can't just leave it in a car... you know?)

My fear would be falling. People fall.. it just happens.. I don't care if you have a black belt in won-ton-ass-kick... people fall down. I would worry carrying SOB could cause an injury that if you fell, you might never stand up again.

Those are my thoughts...

5'7 140lbs here, i use the cqc black hawk 20/21 owb. i wear larger shirts, or an over shirt that can easily hide it. its been more then half a year and nobody has ever noticed it or said a thing, even good friends of mine dont know unless i adjust it in front of them. i have it set at the fbi cant, and right at my back pocket. i find that keeps the profile pretty tight.

but honestly, i am getting the compact 9 and iwb. some of my shirts are to small and i end up leaving with my kel-tec which for some reason makes me feel naked.

LOL! With the temps and humidity here in south being what it is, I just leave it in the truck. When the temps get a little more bearable, I'll CCW under a hooded sweatshirt or light jacket.

I suggest against SOB. Many horror stories with people having back problems, I have problems with my back, and believe me, you don't want it.

I am 5'9" 170 lbs. In cooler weather I wear an undershirt with a short sleeve buttondown. If its hotter I wear a short sleeve tucked IWB holster. When dressing up(for me) I wear a tropical shirt untucked.

All IWB when I can. Wife never even knows.

I couldn't agree more, I see too many people struggling to shoot their J-frames well enough to defend themselves. It's not that small frame guns are impossible to shoot well but require more time and effort on the shooters part to make them a viable self-defense option. I wear a 5.11 vest fairly frequently and I don't recall getting second looks from many people at all. If you read internet forums however, you are led to believe everybody has you pegged as a gunslinger from the get go. I very much doubt it.

IMHO, John

I'm the same dimensions as Jester. I carry a G23 or BHP OWB all the time. T-shirt with a buttondown over it worn open like a jacket. If it's just a quick trip to the store, IWB in the appendix position with just a t-shirt or polo. Both methods work well for me, even in the FL heat. The t-shirt/buttondown actually helps keep you a bit cooler than just a t-shirt alone.

Haven't had nary a second glance (that I know about) in more than 20 years of carrying on a consistent basis.

The MP isn't appreciably larger than the G23, though the extra barrell length would preclude appendix IWB (for me). Same for the BHP. I have a couple of holsters for the MP that should be here this week. Will try it out, and report back.

Slide Holster...

I have 2, 511 vests. Dang, Bowie, that's a lot of vests. Where do you keep them?

So far I carry my MP40 in a slide holster IWB, until my Crossbreed IWB arrives. I will probably buy a compact MP when they come out.

As far a CCW is concerned, it's the size of the grips not the length of the barrel that's hard to conceal, IMO.
