Who's shooting the MP in Production and how's it working so far?

I noticed a few in Tulsa this year but not many.

I came back to edit to include our IDPA shooters - sorry for my oversight. I don't shoot IDPA but would like to hear how the M&P is performing in SSP as well.

I know the M&Ps had a good showing at the IDPA nationals especially for being the first year out there. Hopefully SRVA will be by here and he can tell you about well he and his M&P crew did down there.

I know that at our last match of the year there was just my self and dragonlibra each shooting M&P and I am sure after she starts whipping some more people with her's others will start shooting it as well.

I really do need to get out and try an IDPA match.

In USPSA, I did see a few MP's at the Nationals in Tulsa but locally I haven't seen any yet. I just bought one myself and have only tested the gun up to this point. What I've seen so far has been fairly impressive. I really like how the gun drives more than anything else. I've shot the G17, G34, Beretta Elite II, and the CZ SP-O1 in various matches up to this point. I really liked the CZ - it shot well, but I don't care for the weight, and I had some issues with the mags sticking in the gun. The G17 has been the gun I've shot the most since shooting production, but I think the MP might be a better platform based on some of the drills I've shot with it.... I really need to shoot it for while longer to see how it pans out but right now I'm pretty excited about the gun.

M&P only became legal in USPSA very recently

Actually due to USPSA's one year rule it shouldn't have been legal till December 2006, but they waived the rule sometime this fall. Didn't hurt one of the top women shooters, Julie Goloski moved to S&W this year.

I was working the Area 8 match late July this year and Julie had to shoot a S&W 1911 at the time since the M&P wasn't yet allowed.

Be interesting to see how the M&P does next year in both USPSA and IDPA. Glock is going to have a run for it's money next year IMHO with the M&P's and the XD's out there.

ysued could probably give you more info exactly when USPSA made M&P legal since he does photography for S&W and has some fabulous of Julie with her M&P.

Here's link where he posted his photos. http://mp-pistol.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=755

I'm shooting a M&P9 in Production, I've shot 1 match so far this last Sunday. I placed 5th and I didn't even finish one stage. I had a case failure that got stuck in the chamber and wouldn't come out. I've also broken a striker on the older M&P9 (MPA serial #).

Other than the striker breakage it's running really well. I'm using a Wolff carbon steel guide rod for a Glock 17 and a Wolff 15lb Glock recoil spring. I've just installed a fiber optic front sight from Speed Shooters Specialties and will soon be installing a D. Burwell rear sight.

In our squad at the IDPA Nationals, 4 of 10 shooters had M&Ps. Three of us train together and had pistols on which Dan B. had worked his magic. All three of us trophied. I was suprised at the number of M&Ps at the Nationals and the number of trophies that M&P shooters received. When the fall issue of the Tactical Journal is published, I'll post the results of the shooters survey.

At our local club, we have 6 shooters compting with M&P.

Bryan,

I believe Ernest Langdon shoots an MP and shot it at IDPA Nats or was it IDPA Winter Championships? Apparently, Langdon really likes it. Jerry Miculek, Julie Goloski also shot the MP at Tulsa and I believe Bobby McGee did too. Im not sure who else did. I dont know if John Flentz shot one or not, but I know John shoots for SW.

Ive heard pretty good things so far. Ive got a MP9 of my own and my duty MP40 I just got and have to start the transition in a few days.

Bryan,

I love my CZ's and have really become attached to them, but if it wasnt for loving the CZ's so much, Id be shooting an MP in USPSA, definitely over anything else out there. I like it better than the Glock, XD, Beretta, Sig, etc. I like how it points, handles, ease and reach of controls, I think the trigger is perfectly fine, a little lightening and I think its perfect for Prod, the grips are the best Ive found yet, hands down.

Really like it.

I've shot three matches with my borrowed  M&P 40. It was the only one I saw at the Florida-Georgia Border Disorder IDPA match. I was a brain fade or three away from winning SSP division with it. Trust me when I say it was all the gun, I just held on for the ride
I was prepared to shoot open all next year, but unless the owner wants it back soon I'll be trying it out in production.

I shoot production with my M&P 9. Just got the gun a month ago and shot one match with it so far. The gun ran great. I added the speedshooters fiber front at .100 width, tungsten rod with 13lb ismi spring, trigger job, and mod the rear sight (milled it flat and refinished it.) Could'nt be happier.

Yeah, I agree with you K on the CZ - it's nice and folks are doing well with it. I only shot mine for while. Mine had the Angus trigger work too and it was pretty sweet. I just didn't care for the weight and the few problems I had with the gun.

I also agree with you about the M&P trigger being perfectly fine. I didn't have any problems at all with the test gun I played with..... I think next year we'll see a bunch more of these guns playing in the shooting games.

I got mine Monday before I left for barry, IL for the USPSA Limited/Limited 10/revolver Nationals. I shot 8 Stages with the RO's with my M&P9. I was hooked!! and this was even before I got new sights and Trigger jobs, just plain stock gun.

Now that I have a Great Trigger Job (By Dan Burwell), as soon as I heal from surgery I'll be back into the Groove, shooting Production and SSP with it.

BTW, the M&P got approved by USPSA the first week of September, I don't know what prompted USPSA to vid the 1 year requirement, but they did. But I'm glad they did

Well...After getting my M&P set up and getting a DOH from Kenny at Speed Shooter Specialties last Thursday, I was finally able to give the M&P a run in one of our local USPSA matches. This would be a first for the M&P as I've only been testing the gun since I got back from the Nationals in October.

The gun worked out well today - no problems at all and it shot really well. I'd brag and say that I won production but as most of you who shoot know, there is rarely a large talent pool in production at most local club matches. I normally use the combined overall to see how I stack up against the whole group of shooters. In this case, it was 13th overall with about 50 or so shooters - 2nd production was about 20% or so behind me, so it was a decent first match with a new gun.

The M&P is going to make a great USPSA production set up -

Dude, I envy you !!

I wish we had USPSA Matches here in the Winter!!

I'll have to wait until March for a Local USPSA Match.

My M&P's are going to get lots of use this season.
