M&P Operator's Course

A little background info before I get into the course itself. We (i-SHOT/SERT System) are one of 4 companies that are co-located on a 250+ acre training facility in Alderson, WV called Anvil Rock. The other 3 companies are:

B.C.D.S - A critical driving skills school

Templar Ridge - The pro shop on-site; they also put together their own M4s & M25s

and most importantly.......P.F.T - Pat Goodale's firearms & tactics school

Over the last few months we've seen a good influx of trainees showing up with M&Ps and between supplying M&P shooters with related products during classes and helping them with individual maintenance and upgrades, the folks behind the M&P Forum, the M&P Store and P.F.T decided to put together a 2-day P.F.T's 'M&P Operator's Course' with Pat Goodale.

In layman's term, this course will be a combination of defensive handgun skills and weapons maintenance & repair (a lite armorer's course). This class is open to any M&P owner, anyone from a novice onwards.

The 1st day begins in the classroom with a thorough look into the M&P, leading into the Defensive Handgun portion that introduces the M&P owner to techniques applicable to the defensive use of the handgun. Emphasis is put on shooting skill development for application in real-life circumstances. The fundamentals of Mindset, Gun-handling, and Marksmanship are covered in lecture while the practical aspects are taught on the range. The day ends with a session on maintenance on the M&P.

Other course topics include Situational Awareness, equipment selection, safety, handling, loading, unloading, malfunction clearance, drawing and firing techniques, single handed firing, firing from cover, multiple targets, movement, and tactics. For those who seek it, this course will qualify you for a Concealed Carry License / Concealed Weapons Permit.

It continues the next day with a progression of skill building exercises to include moving targets, exiting from vehicle and other dynamic practical exercises. In essence, everything you'd like to know about the M&P in a tactical & operational environment. It doesn't matter whether you've just bought a new M&P to shoot IDPA/USPSA with or you've been carrying for years, this M&P Operator's Course will take you further than you are currently aware of your potential & skill with of your M&P.

Who is Pat Goodale? For those of you who have not had the opportunity to train under Pat, here's a good chance to do so with your pistol of choice. Pat served for 22 years in the U.S. Marine Corps as an Intelligence and Special Operations Officer, and as a Weapons and Tactics Instructor. Since leaving the Marine Corps, Pat has worked extensively in the tactical training, security and personal protection fields for a number ofinternational companies. His experience as an instructor covers the entire spectrum of modern small arms. He has developed programs of instruction, courses of fire, scenarios and training programs for Law Enforcement and Special Operations Forces and provided training and direct operational support for Law Enforcement, Military and Intelligence units, Foreign Governments, Heads of State, and Private Corporate clients.

There was an article written by Pat Rogers in the March 2002 issue of SWAT magazine about firearm academies in which he listed P.F.T as one of the 9 he recommended. According to Pat Rogers, 'Pat Goodale is a real deal guy, and has a wealth of operational experience.' Here's the link to the article : LINK

Class Date : 23rd & 24th of August

Course Fee : $325

Round Count : 500

More information including equipment recommendations can be found on Pat's website : LINK

Anvil Rock is located about 13 miles off Route 64 in West Virginia. More info would be provided to those who are interested. The course is being held on a Thurs and Fri 'cos we are almost out of weekends for the year. In fact, for those who might wanna get more shooting under your belt, a Tactical Rifle Course will take place immediately after the M&P Operator's Course, on Sat & Sun.

We will make sure to have the different M&Ps and accessories available for everyone to try out. Representatives from the Forum, the Store and of course i-SHOT will be there to give a helping hand.

Let's try a full address:

Hope this works for you. Let me know if you have any other Qs and thanks

BTW, recommended stay is the Brier Inn (www.brierinn.com). That's where most of us bunk when we're in town. It's in Lewisburg; a very small yet pretty historic town with a couple of great restaurants and a rather hip bar; kind of places you would expect in a small medical college town.

Mity, if there is a well recommended place to attend a class with your GF or wife, PFT would be it. I lost track of how many times I have seen husband and wife teams attend their classes. Pat Goodale has some of the best adjunct instructors around. They are patient, very respectable of women and accommodating. This is the only place my wife has ever attended classes at.

I spent the last 6 years taking classes up and down the East Coast and I still come out saying that Pat is one of those that folks need to spend some time with. I have had the honor of assisting him overseas in some classes and he never ceases to amaze me with his knowledge, real world operational experience and humility.
