M&P45 & M&P40 Compact

Hey all just wanted to give you guys a heads up. I was told last week that the M&P 45 is scheduled for release around January/07 Everything I've heard has been promising. Its only marginally bigger than the M&P40 and will have a capacity of 10 rds. The grip will be slightly longer from back front to accomodate the 45 acp. Other than that the grip and the rest of the gun is pretty much like the M&P40.

Additionally they will probably coming out with a version with a frame mounted safety , this for the upcoming military trial .

Now I will be holding the new M&P 40 compact in my hands on Tuesday as I have a meeting with S&W Hierachy and they want us to look at approving it for off duty use.

Needless to say I will try to snap a picture if I can.

8) You da man!!!!
coltm4,

Do you know (or would you be able to ask/find out from Smith & Wesson) if the current models will be able to be retrofitted with the frame mounted safety? The location of the internal lock hole seems to indicate that a manual safety lever could be added at that location.

Any information would be appreciated.
The lucky one has spoken. Give us a heads up on how it goes.

See if you can get a release date on the compact as well!

Don't know the answer but from my understanding S&W is probably going to give up on putting an internal lock on the M&P . Turns out the original had some issues and they may be turned off to the idea.

Which makes your idea a possiblility however I dont know , I will try to find out .

I will def get a firm release date on the compact . Thats a big issue and I know S&W wants aour business. That said I've been told that its scheduled for release this fall.
coltm4,

Thanks much.

Another question-will the compact be Glock 19 size or Glock 26 size? (I hate using that comparison but it was the best I could come up with). I'm hoping it's more in the 26 size.

Thanks again!

The full size M&P is just barely 1/4" longer than a Glock 19, while the grip length is of course "full size".

The Glock 26 is about 1/2" shorter than the 19, while the grip is also shorter. Using the same reasoning, the compact M&P should be about the size of a G26. We hope.

I wouldn't mind it too much if they leave the barrel/slide length as is and just shorten the grip. The hardest thing to conceal is the grip, 1/2" shorter grip would help a great deal.

Good question as I asked the same one a couple of months back , at the time I was told that it would have a 3.5" barrel and a magazine capacity of 10 rds 9mm / 9 rds 40.

So that kinda puts it around the size of the Glock 26/27.

Keep in mind that these manufacturers sometimes change plans so we'll have to see on tuesday. I'll see if I can get them to bring the M&P 45 prototype as well.

I cant wait to see this gun ! Like I said I will try to get pics if they let me :!:

The last "report" I read, the M&P compact was closer to Glock's compact (G19, 23, 32).

I guess we shall see next week.
Glad to hear about the Compact M&P. My pap is looking for a CCW, and was looking at the Glock 26. He really liked my M&P, and would be interested in a compact version.
Man!! I can't wait for the M&P 45.. I was looking at the XD-45 but a friend of mine has had feed issues on his... Then I heard a rumor about the M&P 45 coming out.. I got all excited.. I am going to wait on my 45 until that puppy comes out...
Anxiously awaiting 45!
When do you think we can get some pics of the M&P 45 ACP??
I'll see how I can talk to

I was to but this is "capacity of 10 rds" rather disappointing!

So if this is fact Im no longer interested. Ill get the 40 cal instead!
The military pistol trials is dead so no need for a frame mounted safety .45, besides what would it accomplish on a stiker fired DAO?
Oh man!? I had my heart set on saving up for a Sig p229 next January!! If the M&P is coming out in .45 ACP.. well.. the Sig is going to have to wait! That means I'm going to have an extra $200.00 to buy Lilly something... Life is so hard...

Dont forget the P220 carry!
I'll wait to pass judgement on the .45ACP M&P till I get to hold one. I really don't care about the capacity, every .45 ACP I own is either 8+1 or 7+1, and that doesn't bother me. I'd rather see the M&P 45 as a single stack 8+1 actually.

I expect I'll end up with either a M&P45 or a Beretta PX4 .45. They are due out about the same time.
