I want to start by saying thanks again for the warm welcome here in the intro section!

I also posted a few times in the AR section and learned some good things from Grant, even though I started out a little on the defensive/ aggravating side  I am however--fairly open minded.

I bought my first M&P pistol 3 weeks ago Friday. It is the first new handgun I have ever bought. My other was a 9MM CZ from a friend a few years ago. Nice but it is old and outdated (and heavy).

I took my new gun to the range the next day and took it straight back to the dealer because after a few mags it started DROPPING mags.

They said they would send it back for me. ( I was hoping they would just switch it out for a new one...nope)

Anyway, I finally got it back today and plan on taking it to the range tomorrow to run a few boxes of ammo through it. I really want this gun to work out but I must say my confidence is not quite where I want it to be. Time, and use will cure that I am sure.

ETA: I have noticed my front site is slightly off center. I tried to bump it with a brass rod and could not budge it. Any suggestions?

I will post my results here and try to give back to the site!

Its a quality weapon with a temporary flaw and the CS at S&W will take care of you. Let us know how things go at the range tomorrow and good luck.

Don't bump the front unless you are prepared to adjust the rear also. The sights are inserted by machine and all I have seen are offset a bit to the left as viewed when firing. The position offset does not mean point of impact will be wrong.

Went to the range with the new mag catch in fullsize 40. Ran about 120 rnds with no mag issues (or any other for that matter) except me getting used to shooting this weapon. I do pretty much tend to get some left POI groups. I am pretty sure it is just me...

My front sight was off to the right about 1/32" or so. I had to use a 3 o'clock hold on a 2.5" circle at 7 yds to get a center hit.

My POI was off...I was shooting left of POA. My front sight was off to the right about 1/8 inch. After I re-aligned just the front sight I was hitting dead-on.

You need to secure the slide in a vise and tap the base of the front sight with a brass punch. It took some pretty good whacks before my sight would move.

Another 80 or so rounds. No mag drop. I am getting a bit more accurate. Still having left POI issues though not as pronounced. My front site is certainly to the right (looking from the rear forward). I don't have a brass punch--just a soft brass rod that was evidently too soft to budge the front site. The guys at the indoor range/ store did not want to hammer on it. He waiting for a "tool" to come out...

I also shot my new Kel-Tec 380. Leaning over the bench for steadiness, I was punching a mostly ragged hole at 10 yards (center). I feel like I should be more accurate with a larger handgun.

Following a couple of instructional videos I have seen, I adjusted my grip so that the gun is center in line of my wrist/ arm. When I do that, I do not have a great connection on the side of the grip--not quite airspace but not as solid as the front and back. I can feel solid on the front and back, but not the right side. (I am right handed. ) Any suggestions?

CLB,

What was the "fix" for the magdrop issue? :?:

Sent it to S&W. They sent it back with a replaced mag catch. It has a #1 on it. I don't know what the 1st one was--I sent it back the same day I got/ shot it. I did not have enough experience with it to tell if it "feels" any different either. For now, it works...

I shot a few more boxes at the bowling pin match the other day and it is still doing fine. I still don't have enough through it to fully trust yet. Maybe 400 or so.

CLB,

Thanks for that info. I was wondering if they replaced the Mag Catch or the spring. From what I have read, the mag spring probably needs to be much stronger too but I don't think they have addressed that issue yet. I also have a full-size .40 (Serial no. MPHXXXX) and I haven't had the mag drop issue in nearly 500 rounds since new, but I am still somewhat reluctant to trust my life to this gun with 20% of owners experiencing this issue. This is a great forum for MP owners and all information is appreciated.

I am not exactly sure how many rounds now but close to 1000. No problems at all. No failures. Felling a little better. i took the mag catch out and after about 5oo rounds, no real wear is seen on it.
