I am not posting this because I don't know how to take down my MP 9 but what I don't know is how to do it the wrong way. I mean, reading these posts I have seen lots of people who field strip their gun by turning the take down lever and pulling the trigger?? I have no idea how this works because I have tried it and it doesn't seem to work. What am I doing wrong?? I have a mp9 with a mag safety. Please help.

With the mag safety you have to have a mag insterted to pull the trigger and drop the sear.

well this is what I am trying right now

1. check chambre and insert empty mag,

2. lock back the slide

3. flip take down switch,

4. pull trigger

5. release slide forward



not working so far.

S&W specifically set the M&P up so you don't have to pull the trigger to field strip it, that was one of the key recommendations from the firearms trainers they consulted. The M&P is easy to tear down the right way, so I don't bother looking for a less safe way to do it.

You have to remove the mag after the trigger is pulled
