As I'm in the market for a 9mm carbine, I took a look at this model. The thing I don't care for in either this one or the Kel-tec is the lack of a suitable (for me) rear stock. Also, on the S&W the magazine holder on the rear stock appears awkward to access.

But compared to the Kel-tec It seems better made and that you can keep the optics on the gun when folded is a plus.

NEW Folding Carbine from Smith & Wesson: The FPC

He's an obnoxious reviewer. First and last time I'll watch him. Too many other reviewers without needing this smarmy narcissist douche. He's the type of person I avoid in gunstores, ranges, and life in general.
I'm not a prude and can cuss like a professional.

But if I have people around watching a video about teaching someone the value and relevant points about a firearm, I prefer they not be crude, present a know-it-all and I-know-about-you attitude in a condescending manner, and leave out the blatant double-entendre comments.

He's not my type regardless of his 'information' that I can find elsewhere and not be embarrassed to watch with young girls and boys around I'm hoping to teach about firearms.

I don't expect Mr. Rodgers, but I also don't need that cringe factor regardless of what he's saying.

I understand that while consistency is important, it's not the only thing in operating a weapon. I've never had a problem moving from one system to another after practice. I've never carried Colt revolvers as I don't like the cylinder release direction and rotation of the cylinder compared to S&W. But I have shot enough Colt revolvers to operate the revolver successfully.

I never tried to drop a magazine from a S&W Model 67, confused an 870 12 ga with an AK, or a Cz 75b with a Makarov. Whether I prefer my 75B to the Makarov is not the issue. I can run both successfully because I've practiced with both.

I don't carry firearms defensively without a lot of practice - both the manual-of-arms and plenty of range work.

Familiarity with a variety of guns is good. Practice with a variety of guns is better.

For those who don't practice the manual-of-arms and at the range, sticking with only one gun and one system may be fine, but it doesn't make for a well-rounded and knowledgeable shooter.

There's an old saying, "Nothing is dumber than an expert when you get him off the subject he's an expert in." I've been there and it's true.

The safety on the Beretta CX4 takes some force. It's not going to move by accident. And, after watching the last review of this by Honest Outlaw, I think it looks the same with this carbine. I don't think it would get activated by accident, even in a bag.

I will say that I really am interested in this gun...
Finding one is going to take awhile. I've not seen one in stock online or in LGS.

I looked at the Keltec but plastic trigger group parts, the fold-down direction prohibits mounted optical sights, a heavy trigger pull at about 9 lbs, and the admonishment to never open to clean out the receiver upon great pain and anguish made me discount it for my purposes.

Plus, the corrections to make it better with a complete kit from M*CARBO is $249.00 with the buyer installing it.

It seems that the S&W model eliminated my concerns. Is the S&W perfect? No. But for the money, it seems good enough as is.

There's an FPC for sale on Guns.com for $1396. I'm still laughing for two reasons.

1. It's double the MSRP
2. Knowing some fool will buy it.
I would swear that at least 1 youtube review said it was pretty light for a blowback rifle.

While not bad, I will say the CX4 has more recoil than you would think a 9mm carbine would have. But the bolt on the CX4 is pretty damn big.
I'm assuming that there's less recoil than an AK and that's fine with me. I would think for most shooters, the recoil isn't a factor.

Well, 9mm carbines usually recoil more than an AR15
I'm sure. But in my adult years, I'm not particularly recoil sensitive. Last week I went to an outdoor range where I fired my M1 Garand about 60 rounds. Sure, I felt it but I didn't find it worrisome and now a week later, I can't even remember what the recoil was like.

It's not that I'm a man-of-steel, but I guess my psychology of recoil is that it's just part of the shooting experience and I can choose to notice it each time I fire a 30.06 or just accept it and move on to more important things.

Yesterday I fired +P in my S&W Bodyguard revolver and also can't remember the recoil as I was too busy working with getting my Hogue Laser finessed in my aiming picture.

Others are more recoil sensitive, but I suspect much of that is more psychological than the inability to physically handle it.

Just my own take.

Ok, went to my LGS and saw one in person and really liked it. Bad news was he only had one and another customer was about to purchase it. The guy ( his name is John ) gladly offered me to handle her and get a feel of the carbine which was really nice of him. I got to completely check her out and decided upon completion to order one, thankfully he has 3 more coming in on the 23rd so only have to wait 10 days or so. I really like the fact that you can fold up with an optic mounted and has a really nice carry case to keep everything together. I hope this is a win for S & W, from what I've seen it should be. I'll post pics when I get her followed by a range report, weather permitting.
If you don't mind telling, was the price MSRP or were they getting a premium price? I saw one on a gun site for $1396, about double the MSRP. With the demand for that model, I'm wondering if LGS are asking more.

Thanks.

No, actually I was surprised it was 699. I think msrp is 675 or close to it, he is a small local gun shop out here in the semi sticks and have never known them to gouge their prices.
That's fair. Thanks for letting me know. Have you decided on an optic? I'll be waiting for your range report.
Cheers!
