...but not new to forums. I've been on Bladeforums for 20 years or so, been on a few other knife forums and lurked on Glock forums.

So... I joined MP-Pistol Forums to go along with the Shield 1.0 I acquired a few weeks ago. Since this is my first S&W semiauto, I thought joining the forum and taking advantage of the members' knowledge and experience would help me "bond" quicker with the new guy in my household.

So far, I really like the Shield. I picked it up as a front/cargo pocket carry for "in-your-face", SHTF needs when I don't want to strap on my M17 or slide my G43X in my waistband. I dropped it off with a local gunsmith for d/a and deep cleaning. It just came back this week, "running like a top" he said. I took it to the range today and shot it alongside my 43X to start getting familiar with it. I've only put 160 rounds through it so far, but I'm impressed with the performance at SD distances. It is very comfortable and easy to shoot, compared to my 43X (which I love, BTW, and will never part with).

Well... that's me. I'm a retired preacher and sporting goods IT guy living on the south side of the ATL Metro area. I started shooting in FL with my dad when I was 5 or 6 and I've been doing it as much as I could ever since (that would be for the last 68 years). I shoot regularly, round about 400-500 rounds a month. Barely enough to keep up basic familiarity, I know... but it is what it is. Thanks for letting me get my foot in the door. I look forward to interacting with all of you for years to come.

Welcome, buddy.

You picked a good pistol (M&P model). Many of us on the forum here have said that our Shields shoot better for us than our larger M&Ps. Some of us have bought multiple Shield pistols. I got my wife one. Darn thing shot so good I bought one for myself. Then when the OR model Shield Plus pistols were out I bought one of those. All of them are great shooters. Easy to clean/lube, too.

Several threads here about sights, one or two on holsters, some about shooting the Shields.

Welcome aboard from a newer member on Florida's Treasure Coast!

Just before the Shield 2.0s were released, I bought four Shields (two 9mm and two 45) at a crazy low price and loved them. One was gifted to my son and one I later sold - unfired - to my pastor. I bought a Shield Plus in December and love it as well.

They are reliable, accurate, and easy to conceal. My only problem with them has been one of self-control. As S&W keeps improving the Shields and introducing new variants, I struggle not to race to my LGS with cash in hand to bring back the new one! So far, I've been mostly winning the battle.

Again, welcome aboard.

Yes, another Shield Junkie. I'm not sure if we're on the road to recovery, or sinking deeper into the habit. ;)

Welcome aboard from Texas. Yes, I am another Shield fanatic myself. I have 3 Shield Plus pistols, but used to own 4 regular Shields over the years

Thanks to all for the warm welcome. I have enjoyed the Shield so far. I like the 8+1 slimness of the single stack grip and the factory 3-dot sights acquire and stay on target very nicely for me. Right now, I'm carrying it in a DeSantis Superfly holster without the large pad. I'm loading 147 gr Federal LE ammo for EDC and 115 gr ball ammo for the range.

Hopefully, the only thing I'll ever shoot is a paper target. But if SHTF... I have every confidence in the Shield.

Since I got my Shield Plus I've put my 1.0 Shield in the bag we put in the car/truck for road trips. Same back that has a first aid kit, water purifier, phone/battery charger, flashlight/batteries, etc. in. Small/light/perfect for a back up gun in a bag.
Yeah... I've got one of those, too. Many years ago, I got stuck in a blizzard on the PA Turnpike in a broken down MG Midget (remember those?). Ever since then I've carried an "Arrive Alive" bag in whatever car I'm driving. Currently, it's a Maxpedition waist bag with a FAK (man and dog), fire starting kit, compass, flashlight and spare batteries, Leatherman, small fixed blade (Izula 2) and sharpener, water straw & tablets, and enough room in the center section for a couple of MRE's and a spare magazine or two. I can strap it on or toss it over my shoulder.

And I've even actually used some of the stuff in it a few times. Mostly the FAK and Leatherman when somebody at church or on a trail got hurt.
