My wife has a G42. Nice little pocket gun. I've got a Keltec P3AT, which is just like your LCP. It's nasty as he** to shoot, but it sure does conceal well!

But, I have a Ruger LCP - 1st Gen. I really hate shooting that gun. But, it makes a good pocket gun. However, I am not a huge fan, but at least it is reliable. The LCP Max doesn't really interest me, though.
I started reading and watching reviews of the Glock 42. I rented it a couple of weeks ago. I rented it again today - then went and bought one.
I put 150 rounds thru the gun. I usually don't like Glock factory sights or the Glock grip angle. But on this little gun, the grip angle doesn't really effect me as much. And, I like the sights - especially compared to the LCP sights.
Anyway - gun is very accurate. I was surprised. Low recoil too. After shooting 150 rounds thru it, it took me a little while to adjust to 9mm again.
I picked up 1 extra mag for now, so I have 3. I was surprised how I could just rapid fire the entire mag and still do so well. I like this little gun.
It has its place. Will it replace my 9mms? No - But, I think I will start using it in place of the LCP

Yea, that is the only reason I have kept that LCP all these years. My wife has a G42. Nice little pocket gun. I've got a Keltec P3AT, which is just like your LCP. It's nasty as he** to shoot, but it sure does conceal well!
Maybe I will look into that.Try a heavier recoil spring in the LCP. I went from factory to a 12# and it made a difference.
So far it is.. I also bought a 13# spring set after reading that it is also reliable and reduces felt recoil. I doubt I'll use it since I am happy with the 12.Maybe I will look into that.
Still reliable?

Online, I did see a device that fits on the back of the slide that makes it easier to rack. Did you try that?I totally loved everything about my G42. It was very accurate, from the first shot. It was a lot of fun to shoot. ENJOY IT!!!! I sure did.
However, as my hand and wrist problems became worse and my strength lessened, I could no longer rack the slide to slide lock and even the recoil started to become a problem. I wound up giving it to one of my granddaughters. I also wound up buying more than one SIG P238 which was smaller but had much softer recoil and I could rack the slide. Now I have to manually cock the hammer to be able to rack the slide to slide lock, but it is doable, and the same thing applies to my other .380's and also my .22's. Because of this problem, 1911 style guns with exposed hammers now work the best for me.
No I didn't although I know one woman whose husband bought one of those brands of "ears" so she could rack her G42 slide. It wasn't just the difficulty racking the slide, but once it is in slide lock, you have to be able to pull it all the way back and release it to slingshot that first round into the chamber. That was becoming too difficult for me to do. (Do NOT tell me that I could have used the slide lock lever to release the slide to load the first round. I never did, and never will do that!)Online, I did see a device that fits on the back of the slide that makes it easier to rack. Did you try that?
When you say stovepipe do you mean the round sticks straight up instead of feeding into the chamber, OR do you mean that the empty cartridge gets caught and sticks up instead of being ejected?Unfortunately, this gun is not proving to be reliable.
It's been reliable with 35 defensive rounds (Critical Defense and Hydrashoks). But with FMJ, about 8 stovepipes in 240 rounds of FMJ. Tried multiple brands. Only thing that runs 100% is PMC, but that was just one 50 round box.
The ejected casings are getting stuck...When you say stovepipe do you mean the round sticks straight up instead of feeding into the chamber, OR do you mean that the empty cartridge gets caught and sticks up instead of being ejected?
I assume you cleaned it before shooting and are using MINIMAL oil as Glock specifies. I used Frog Lube on my Glocks and when done properly per instructions, that leaves them looking dry, but when they heat up as you shot them the "lube" comes back out of the pores and activates. Amazing stuff.
Glocks totally HATE limp wristing. I mean passionately hate. It may be that your grip is just not consistently tight enough with both hands. Another thing that can cause rounds to stovepipe up and not feed into the chamber is even a slight bit of drag from your thumb(s) on the slide as it cycles.
The only brand that the G42 refuses to work with that I know of is Privi Partisan and that causes horrendous problems. I shot most of "the usual" brands of FMJ through mine. All of my Glocks liked S&B the best, with it's slightly hotter load. You might try S&B if you can find any.
In fact, way back when hubby was still reloading 9mm's for me, I had him load them a bit on the hot side to keep my Glocks happy. I'm not talking +P hot - just a wee bit hotter like the S&B.
I really want you to be happy with that little baby girl. I actually had two of them at the same time, purchased a couple years apart, and both were totally reliable.
Maybe it is an ejector - or extractor - problem. The issue with that is with only 8 FTE in 240 rounds, the factory might be hard pressed to determine the real cause. I'm so sorry to hear that you can't trust it now. I wouldn't either, though. The ejected casings are getting stuck...
Thanks for the suggestions... But this was my 13th Glock , so I am pretty familiar with the platform. And, I always clean every gun before the 1st range trip. So, that isn't the problem.
I had read posts on other forums of people who deal with similar things from the G42....
I've lost confidence in the gun at the moment. It's not 100%, so it doesn't get carried.
Even shooting it 1 handed, with a tight grip causes the issue.... So, I don't think it's limp wristing.
