Is this your first handgun? The M&P is a reliable, smooth firing, accurate, and low recoil gun. Make sure you keep an eye on what you are paying. You should be able to find one for at or under $400 on sale. It is currently available in a full size 9mm. and 40cal. as well as a compact 9mm. My main advice would be to read as many posts on this site as you can. If you are looking for accurate information on a wide variety of topics, you have come to the right place. If you have more specific questions, just ask. Oh yeah, welcome.

I'm new here too. I found this forum by accident. I got my M&P40 back in June. I had been considering getting one for most of the beginning of the year. What made my mind up was the commercial I heard that a S&W rep was gonna be promoting them at a gun store that was about an hour away. They were selling either the 40 or the 9mm (your pick) for $437. That made my mind up. I've put about 600 rounds through it and I really like it. I've owned a Glock23 and back in my hayday, got to shoot quite a few pistols.( and rifles for that matter) I just like the fact that S&W has this piece on the market and could tell that it was gonna be a contender in it's class when I was researching it. It shoots excellent and looks cool too. I am looking forward to the different models that I know will be dropping throughout the next year. I love modifying my guns as well and look forward to the products that will come out just for the M&P's. Bottom line.............get one!

Have to come up and shoot with me sometime your only about 45 min away, and I have my own private range.

Welcome to the forum, Mark.



My advice is to go to a range and rent a variety of different models and calibers. See what fits you best - what feels best to YOU. It's tough to base an important decision like this based on what other people write.
