Got an M&P9 today and thought I would post some initial impressions. Product number is 209201, mag disconnect, no lock. Serial number is MPJ0XXX. Cost was $399.99 on sale at Fin Feather & Fur in Ashland Ohio. I put 200 rounds through it as soon as I got it out of the box, cleaned and lubed. I had no failures of any kind. Tried all 3 of the grips and found the large works best for me. I had a tendency to shoot left with the smaller two. Trigger breaks at 6lb by my RCBS trigger scale. The gun is new to me, but I could still get 1.5" groups at 25 feet with jhp and fmj 115gr reloads. After a few hundred more rounds, I'm sure I can tighten that up a bit. I also own a Sigma 9GVE in 9mm. Honestly, outside of the heavier trigger pull with the Sigma, I can't tell a whole lot of difference between the two as far as preformance and dependablility goes. I really like both pistols and plan to keep them both. They look very much alike stripped down except the trigger mechanics are different on the M&P. The options on the M&P are nice, but once it is set up the way I like it, I doubt I will be changing it again. I think I got a great pistol for the price, and I am glad I bought it. The trigger seems to be smoothing up already, and I'm sure after a couple thousand rounds, I will like it even more.

Great gun isn't it? I just took out my M&P .40 today for the first time. It really shoots well!! I consistently was keeping it under 2 inches rapid fire at 15 yards. My only complaint is that it is a little "slippery" in the hand when firing. Next time I will have to bring the larger backstrap to see if that helps. If not then it will go to get the sharkskin treatment on the grips.

Is the sharkskin material kind of like the skateboard tape in feel/friction?

Ive got a pattern cut for my MP for skateboard tape, but only on the grip that is fixed, front strap, etc. The grip inserts seem to be made of a different material (more hard rubber than the polymer frame) and the skateboard tape doesnt want to stick to the inserts. No biggie though, it still does very well. Wondering about the sharkskin though.

I wonder if Dan Burwell can come up with backstraps/inserts that have the skateboard material on them.

Dan has replaceable grips available that are textured in sharkskin if you are interested. PM him or post up in his section if you have specific questions.

I use 3M ladder tread tape that is available at Lowe's, Home Depot etc. I have even put it on knife handles and it stays on through many many washings. I have it on 2 of the older Ruger P95 super slick grips and it makes a world of difference.

Ive been using the 3M tape for about 9 years now, but it doesnt stick to very hard rubber, especially when the hard rubber type surface has a different texture and is round though, it peels up.

My buddy, Eric makes Tru-Grip Grip tape.

I have been hammering him constantly to make the M&P tape, he's working on it!!

I think he will start with the tape for the backstraps first!!

Dan is also working to get his backstraps approved by USPSA for Production Division.

This might take some time because the USPSA BOD is working on the Rule book at this time for January release, then it will be provisional for 2007 for changes and approved for final release for 2008!!

Sooo, Dan's grips might have a chance after all!

This is for USPSA only, I don't know what IDPA feels about this sugject though.
