Hello all... Just found the forum and wanted to get in on the forum.

I do have an M&P 9mm... but since it's my department issued weapon I can't really say I own and M&P. I have been carrying the M&P since the 9mm was released... and I am happy to say it is a GREAT weapon. This is the first S&W I have fired that I really like... I was never a big fan of the trigger pull on other S&W weapons.

Anyway... glad to have found a forum dedicated to a weapon I trust with my life.

Interesting that your department went with the 9mm instead of the 40SW. Did you have a choice between the two, or was it the 9mm or nothing?

There's been a lot of talk/debate over the 9mm vs. 40SW as the LEO and personal SD caliber of "choice".

I was just curious why you or your department went with the 9mm. It's always neat to hear the reasoning as to why specific caliber choices are made.
I'm from Akron, OH. What part of OH are you from?

The 9mm was the current caliber in use for my department. If you know anything about large city police departments... you can understand the logistics of getting new weapons into circulation... let alone the media storm when a department switches calibers. I imagine the headlines would read something like "Cops get bigger more powerful guns to kill citizens!!"

I carried and used a 9mm in Iraq and it always did the job. That said... if given the chance to pick the .40SW I think I would at least try the weapon out. As it stands I have no choice in the matter.

Cincinnati, OH. As far away from Akron as you can get I think. This sudden cold front is freezing us down here... I guess with the lake effect you guys are watching the skies for the white stuff.
