A choice is always good, and I certanly have no problem with that — just have to run it past Jester.

What exactly is hard to read, is it possible your monitor settings are off?

The word Black is my tippoff, seeing that this design is almost entirely dark grey.

General Monitor Config Tip (for everyone):

Set your contrast to 100% and adjust your brightness from there.

If you cant distinguish the blacks from the greys on this site then either your setting are still way off or possibly your monitor has seen better days.

Nothing should be hard to read using this design, its been validated on multiple setups.

The white text on grey is so-so contrasty. For the guy who uses a CRT in a dark room, it works great. For the guy with a bundled cheap 17inch LCD without the best contrast ratio ina lit room? Not so much. Make thet guy someone in his 50s with the aging eyesight of a 50 year old? Even worse.

I know the gradient at the top of each text "frame" is driving my eyes buggy when trying to read, and I'm usually not bothered by light text ona dark background.

Also the blue text for already read/visited threads is HORRIBLE on the grey background. VERY unreadable.

Also, from looking at the edit window text, you have light grey text on a about 75% grey background. rather than actual white. The edit window with white text on an 80% background is much more readable. (still gonna cause eyestrain for a certain percentage of the population).

As for the ehader and all the nav-bars etc, those I actually like. I just think some compromise is going to have to occur on where the eyeballs meet the text in any serious way.

It could be that my monitor settings are off; I’m petty new to all this computer stuff.

Good feedback, this is what we're looking for.

Im in a bright office on an LCD, but I'll see what we can do to replicate your situation and make it better.

Even worse. I know the gradient at the top of each text "frame" is driving my eyes buggy when trying to read, and I'm usually not bothered by light text ona dark background.
Are you seeing the gradient as smooth or choppy? If it looks choppy, you might have your display set to thousands of colors (med or high, 16 or 24bit), rather than millions (highest (32bit)) in your start > control > display settings? Let me know.

Also the blue text for already read/visited threads is HORRIBLE on the grey background. VERY unreadable.
It is a bit dark, I'll bring that up a bit.

Again, It is a bit dark, I'll bring that up a bit to see if that helps.

I have a ton of people who love it, some who hate it and a few on the fence. I think offering a Dark or a Light Skin might be the solution. But for now this feedback is great, keep it coming so we can make the dark skin as readable as possible.

Ok, jsut got done doing my circuit of the place.

HOLY CRAP it is hard on the eyes, and I don't mind places like AR15.com.

No the gradient isn't choppy, it's jsut that the human eye likes nice sharp colors on a nice clean background with a nice clear font with a contrast level about the equivalent of pen on paper.

the gradients at the top of each text pane have you trying to figure out how dark the background is constantly while reading the text. I suggest this because it's a bit less eye-strainy reading a post long enough that I have scrolled the gradient bit off the top of the screen. however it still may not be sufficient.

It's cool looking form a design standpoint, but the ergonomics are for **** at the moment.

Definite thumbs up to the overall feel and direction though.

It looked cool at first. Now I am having a hard time reading or finding things. Maybe I'll get used to it. I think white letters on a dark background just isn't natural. My eyes think I'm playing tricks on them. Again, maybe I'll get used to it.

I went to 100% white there for a while but there is no way I can stand that either, so I set it back to an easier to read gray.

Once we get this as 100% as possible we'll look into an alternate "bright" theme.

Keep the feedback coming!

It looks pretty good to me, but I'm just one voice among many, it would be nice if there was a choice of at least 2 or 3 background colors, that could accommodate quite a few people.

You mentioned a 100% white, now that can really be hard on the eyes!

I just noticed something, the buttons for the formatting tags, bold, italics, etc, are almost invisible, I'm not having any other problems, but those tags really come in handy!

The other style seemed easier to read........maybe it takes some time to get used to it. White type on a black background seems awkward. Would make for an interesting newspaper........

View posts since last visit - Its on the top right side of the board, just under Log out.

I have looked again, and I simply don't have that option. There is nothing under Log out, I see a cube that has recent topics scrolling through it, but not the view posts. I am using Firefox, but I looked on IE as well and its simply not there. Am I a complete moron or is anyone else not seeing the option?
