Well I'm new to firearms and after much research and browsing of not only this forum but Glock, Springfield XD Talk and others bought an M&P 9mm Compact today. I test fired one of these units along with the 40 a few weeks ago. Can't wait to get out and shoot for the first time in the next couple of days.

I do have a few questions. Should I clean my gun prior to going to the range the first time? Any good small safes that you like or recommend? I've been looking at Gun Vault Deluxe safes.... Finaly question is I'll be looking for a concealed holster and would welcome ideas on this.

Thanks for all the great feedback. I've enjoyed this board and it's helped me a great deal in making a purchase decision.

Welcome, and great choice on the M&P! No doubt you'll love the gun.

If you're anywhere near Charleston/Mt. Pleasant I'll gladly led you check out my Comptac CTAC inner waistband holster, or Desantis outwer waistband holster.

If it were my gun, I would clean and lube it before firing it. There's often all kinds of crud in there from the factory, and the grease on the internals is not a function lube but more of a preservative in case it sits in a gun store display for a year.

Welcome to the site...
Re:

I'm unsure how I ended up with two post but I did. Thanks for the responses. I'll plan to give her a good going through prior to my range visit this week. This is my first firearm so I have a few things to learn.

Read the manaul and take a class if you can!! Congrats!
Welcome aboard. Good choice of weapons.

On the holster, my son has the Com-Tac C.T.A.C. for his 40c and I have the Com-Tac Infidel for my M&P9. Both of these holsters have clips that snap over the belt. I like the fact that I don't have to take my belt off to put the holster on or off. Also, once on they stay put.

I have carried concealed for more years that some of our members are old and this is the first kytec/plastic holster I have owned. It will not be the last. It works. It is thin, the holster stays open allowing for easy reholstering and it is fast! Don't get me wrong, I still like a good leather holster as well, like my two Milt Sparks "Watch Six" holsters. They are comfortable and very concealable.

There is a huge selection of really good holsters available and some good reviews on this forum to help you make your selection.

Good luck with your new M&P and be safe.

Welcome. Charlotte, NC here.

As far as gun safes, I personally like DAC SportSafe I got from Walmart. It's a small safe that has 4-5 finger buttons on top so it can be opened via combination at night. It will fit about 2 handguns, but that's it. Hey, for $55, not bad!
Welcome.
