So, myself like many of the armed guards that I work with are finishing up college or are in the process of applying to a Police Department in the hopes of proudly serving our communities. No, we are not as recognized or respected as members of the law enforcement community but we go to work everyday, take our lumps, look over our shoulders and honestly earn our paycheck.

Right now I am with an Armored Car Company and am applying with the NYPD.

Do we have any other armed guards out there who are carrying the M&P?

I've been there...I worked five years for an armored car company and carried an M&P 40 the last year. Now I work servicing ATMs and bank vacuum systems but sometimes miss the days on the armored truck. When I was LEO, we had to carry .38 revolvers on duty, but I carried a 4506 on my own time.

Sometimes I guard my Spouse. Now that I think on it, I guard my family and friends without their knowing.

In Arkansas Armed Guards need a Commission from the State that manages this type of work.

As far as I am concerned, Guards, armed or not have my respect. I run into quite a few over the years and had good luck with them. However, I will open my big mouth and say that there is one bad apple in every barrel. I am just glad that these were not armed LOL.

Did two years with Well Fargo doing ATM's back in 1989, carried a Colt Commander the whole time cause our office couldn't issue guns. Got some Taurus .38's and they locked up after 24rds. Office manager sent them back. Carried that Commander cocked and locked the whole time, made the office manager nervous as hell. Got a FED LE job and started off making only $1 more an hour.

Worked the graveyard shift for 2 years while attending college. Unfortunately we were not allowed to be armed despite having to patrol rather desolate areas of the complex. The best I could do was carry my own nightstick (no management would not even provide that).

I'm a Brinks guy... We've been using M&P40FS for over a year now [with Win Ranger 180gr ammo]. The M&P has definitely made me a believer. A few of our older guys miss their .38 revolvers, but it seems like nearly everybody shoots the M&P better, so no issues.

I just got an M&P45FS of my own...I wouldn't mind carrying that on duty, but regs forbid that kind of thing. Nothing wrong with the .40 however.

I am trying to get a job as armed security. Hopefully armored car work. Do most of your companies supply a sidearm?

Here in ct you can only carry firearms you qualify with. So I am going to be picking up an M&P 45 to qualify with when I take my armed security course next weekend.

We had a 23 year-old armed security guard, working an apartment complex, get shot a few weeks back in St Petersburg, FL. The guy who killed him WAS caught, and simply stated he hated cops and security guards. The guard's weapon was never recovered.

Mall cops, and such get a bad rap, but armed guards, doing night shifts, in bad areas... Man... I feel really bad for that "kid" and his family. These guys get about $12/hr...

I respect the work, as it IS the stepping stone to Law Enforcement.

Hrm... Thanks for bringing this up. I have always wondered what police depts. carried M&Ps, though I never even thought of the security jobs. I will be very interested to hear who all in the security business carries the M&P.

I'd really like to here from some armed guards about what your job is like. I am going for an interview this coming tuesday for an armed position. I am not sure what to expect in terms of what the company will supply, if anything. I'll be carrying my M&P45 and for now my LC9 as a back up.

Any armed guards have comments? Perhaps a more active Armed Guards forum? Or at least a place with more armed guards?

I work in Las Vegas, NV in a Casino/Resort. I carry an M&P9. Armed guard job is different. Most people don't give a **** who you are, the only power you have is private property. Where I work, we have 10 -15 officers on duty at a time, including 3-7 of them that are armed. Make sure if you carry a firearm, you try to get OC, Baton, control stick, taser and etc. Just carrying a gun could be bad if you ever use it, in court. I am a firearms instructer baton instructer and teach Use Of Force.

A buddy of mine bought all of the S&W model 10's and 15's when Pinkerton switched over to 9mm. I've worked for quite a few police and sheriff depts but never carried a firearm as part of any paying job

I am an armed security officer in Milwukee, WI. Carry an M&P .45c as my duty gun. I work in a low income housing complex with over 570 units on a 70 acre complex. We patrol on foot and in a squad dealing with anything that a police department would, including murders, drugs, prostitution, weapons, animals, EDPs and many more things. I have also had to draw my weapon numerous times. We work side by side with the Milwaukee Police Department as well as the Milwaukee County Sheriffs Office. We get a good amount of respect from the Cops because we deal with the same issues they do. We just don't get their pay.

I am a retired Special Agent with the Dept. of Homeland Security. I am currently the Manager of Training and Executive Protection for a firm here in Las Vegas. When doing protective details, I carry my M&P 9C. When we do robbery or burglary supression details, I carry either my full size M&P .40, or my full M&P 9mm.

I have been a firearms instructor for over 31 years, and I am a HUGE fan of the M&P pistol.
