Their gun all have to have a certain barrel lenght, and I thought there is also something about a caliber larger than .357. Not to even mention that buisness about keeping it locked up at all times, and only being able to take if from the safe to the rage.
I had never heard about a the 28 day wait but that doesn't really surpise me California is almost half way there.
Hey Dan.
Yea, to get a pistol you have to join a club, that takes about a month with attendances...
After that you need to be with the club for 6 months from joining date.
You then "purchase" your pistol, and nothing over .357*, min 5" barrel and 10 in the mag... but the shop holds it for you.
Then you can apply to the Club (three forms) for a "Letter of Support", ligitimising the "need" for a pistol
Then you fill out about 5 forms for the Police application, and wait 28 days...
After that they should grant you permission for a temporary transport permit to collect the pistol from the shop and bring it straight back to the police station for verification.
It's then bang time... About 8 months if things go well before pulling the trigger.
Now for another pistol you need to wait another six (6) months... After this period it's fairly free to get "additiions" providing a reasonable reason...
*larger calibers are ok but only in revolver and for set disiplins, western, metalic etc.
You have no idea how easy it is to get into the shooting sports in the US! Here it is very regulated. Not as bad as England i believe though
