The administrators of packing.org don't even know why it's down. Nobody can get ahold of Mark, the owner, to get any information.

He probably got tired of it. Who knows? Other than Mark, probably nobody...

there was some riff I think between the owners?

I know zero details but I remember watching a cable news show interview a number of months ago (possibly after the VA-tech shooting) and one of the "experts" was introduced as being one of the founders of packing.org to which he quickly responded that he was no longer affiliated with that site because of a difference of opinion he had with the other administrators and their ability to keep accurate information. Then he stated that he had started a new website that was supposedly better. I forgot what it was but I recall checking it out at the time and there was little there other then some PDF's ripped off from the NRA site.

anyone know more details?

I was reading about it on another forum, there was a post from one of the former moderators, he said the guy who owned it just let it go to pot, wasn't updating the site as the laws were being changed, and blew off all the people who had been helping him, then finally let the domain expire.

Even when up-and-running, that site has been of little to no use at all. You'd think such a referenced website would be useful.

I actually liked packing.org and miss it. I've kinda gotten used to handgunlaw.org but I was just more familiar with packing.org. Most of the links I used there worked fine and I have no complaints but I guess all good things have to end.

I had used it numerous times in the past, there was lots of information on there and it was laid out where you could find it easily, I liked it. I've recently used handgunlaw.us looking for some information, it's OK but I didn't find it as user friendly as packing.org was.
